Originally we applied for a $416,00 grant for a specialized detective for 3 years. Ultimately, the Department of Justice awarded just over $23,053 over 36 months, that would cover overtime costs for current police officers to conduct retail compliance checks and decoy operations and administrative costs (HR, Payroll, etc.) The City of Kingsburg Police Department was notified in October that we were awarded the grant and we need to get back to the DOJ by February 24th, 2024, with the approval of the Council for the funds.

Council Member Silva asked if Townsend was part of the grant application. Lt. Stephens clarified they were involved.
