The project will construct bike lanes on Draper Street from California Street to Sierra Street and curb extensions (bulb-outs) at four intersections along Lewis Street between Marion Street and Washington Street.

The City has completed design plans and specifications for the project and advertised for bids on May 31, 2024. The work to be done, in general, includes surface preparation, crack seal damaged areas, slurry seal III, pavement striping, concrete improvements, markers and markings, plug paving and pavement surface replacement.

On July 2, 2024, the City received six responses from contractors for the project with bids ranging from $522,520.00 to $988,922.00. The lowest bid was submitted by Don Berry Construction, Inc. of Kingsburg, California in the amount of $522,520.00. The project included two additive alternates – pavement milling and thermoplastic crosswalk markings.

Each of these additive alternates exceeded the budgeted amount for this work and therefore, staff is recommending not awarding this portion of the work.

Don Berry Construction, Inc. possesses an active Class A, General Engineering, Contractor’s license in the State of California and the license is in good standing.
