Ava Hoener
Hello, my name is Ava Hoener and I live in the city of Santee. I am a student and member of Youth v. Oil and I am writing in support of item #12.1. Oil drilling in close proximity to homes is extremely detrimental to the health of those who reside there. Most of these communities are made up of those who are lower income and BIPOC. Through Youth v. Oil, I have been working on raising awareness about the SB 1137 Resolution. I urge you to support our resolution, assuring 3,200 ft. setbacks between oil drilling sites and community centers. Our community should not have to worry about developing leukemia, asthma, or even birth defects because their representatives fail to protect them. It is extremely important that we continue to take action against Big Oil while protecting our community at the same time; it is crucial that we have your support for the SB 1137 Resolution.

Lois Knowlton
Please support the students from 350.org who are asking that you oppose the effort by Big Oil to eliminate the 2022 law (SB137), which protects oil and gas wells from being drilled in neighborhoods and close to schools. Big Oil is spending $40 million to force a November ballot referendum to overturn SB137. Please stand up as a City Council to oppose this anti-environmental effort.

Ava Hoener submitted a comment in support of adopting a resolution to defend health and safety setback regulations (Senate Bill 1137) and endorse the Campaign for a Healthy and Safe California.
