7. PUBLIC COMMENTS – (TOTAL TIME – 15 MINUTES)
Public Comments
Dianne Osterling
I appreciate La Mesa seems focusing on funding public health and safety services which provide specific benefits to current La Mesa residents and business. The role of government in protecting public health and safety concerns through policy development and implementation, urban planning, preventative and proactive maintenance, and adherence to public health and safety regulations is ever more critical. We’re living through challenging times –increased housing density in La Mesa (San Diego County’s most densely populated city), roll back of hillside construction permit requirements, state-imposed limits on local municipality rights for local urban planning, add to those concerns for fire and floods during the current California property insurance disaster. Residents appreciate the public employees who work to protect the city and residents they work for. It’s concerning when politicians behave as though public employees are their own personal employees. They are not. Politicians may act like they’re paying city employee wages, but the money is coming from the budget, which residents are big contributors to.
Council, please treat the residents of La Mesa with care as great as you provide city employees. Please treat residents with as much respect as you provide to your campaign contributors and those who pay your wages at whatever organization you may run or work for.
Colin Parent, telling a crowd at a campaign event you’re working with the City Attorney to come up with a solution to bring back Zoom public access to Council meetings, while you refuse to acknowledge resident’s calls for return to Zoom public access and haven’t provided an update to your supposed ad hoc committee for months, is not respecting residents- the people you’re asking to vote for you.

Dianne Osterling spoke and submitted a comment on public health and safety services and remote public comment.
Brenda Hammond spoke on the La Mesa community.
