Senior Code Enforcement Specialist Andres Lemus provided information on Los Angeles County's mandatory spay/neuter ordinance. He said the County requires dogs and cats to be spayed or neutered to help reduce pet overpopulation and to protect pets from potential harm. Senior Code Enforcement Specialist Lemus said pursuant to Los Angeles County Code Section 10.20.350, residents are required to have their dogs and cats older than four months of age spayed or neutered. He said failure to comply with the spay/neuter ordinance there is considered an infraction punishable by a fine of up to $250. He said if the City Council would be supportive of the County enforcing its mandatory spay/neutering ordinance in La Mirada, an updated Service Level Request agreement could be executed to indicate that it no longer is a pre-approved exception.
