4.2 UPDATE ON PROPOSED ACTIVITIES TO COMMEMORATE THE 250™H

ANNIVERSARY OF THE UNITED STATES DECLARATION OF

INDEPENDENCE
City Manager Boynton introduced the item.

Community Services Director Oliver Osuna provided an update on the proposed activities to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence. He said during the January 13 Study Session meeting, Councilmembers inquired about adding features to the fireworks display to commemorate the nation's 250th anniversary. He said staff spoke with the fireworks show operator, Fireworks America, regarding City's interest in having a special feature honoring the semiquincentennial at this year's Independence Celebration event. He said Fireworks America representatives suggested an encore finale that would consist of 344 additional shells at a cost of $4,000. He said if the Council is supportive of including the encore finale, an amendment to the agreement could be prepared for approval at a future regular meeting.

Community Services Director Osuna also proposed an event on a Saturday evening, tentatively scheduled for June 6, that would consist of a small selection of La Mirada Symphony members performing patriotic and Americana music. He said an additional band might also be included to supplement the Symphony's performance, and food and drink vendors would be part of the event's festivities, similar to the Night Market held during the City's summer concerts. Additionally, staff solicited quotes from drone show providers to determine the cost of a drone show. He said the cost of a 12 to 15 minute patriotic show with about 300 drones would be approximately $30,000.

Members of the City Council discussed the proposed ideas to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence and expressed support for adding an encore finale to the fireworks show at the Independence Celebration event and adding a patriotic event on June 6 which would include a patriotic drone show.

2 Minutes of the Study Session Meeting
February 10, 2026
City Manager Boynton introduced the item.

Theatre Director BT McNicholl provided information on the proposed price scale for Broadway Series tickets at the La Mirada Theatre for the ertorming Arts. He said that in 2017, the heatre engaged a ticketing consultant , Jacobsen Consulting Applications (JCA), to undertake a comprehensive review of the Theatre's ticket pricing structure. He said as a result, the Theatre auditorium's seating chart was redesigned, and a corresponding price scale was introduced for the 2018-19 season which, overall, increased prices by 5%.

Theatre Director McNicholl said staff recently conducted a comprehensive review of Theatre ticket prices in collaboration with several of its contracted vendors. He said these firms have direct experience in coordinating strategies for the Theatre's ticket sales, while also having a strong sense of ticket pricing conditions nationally and at nearby Southern California venues. He proposed two options for implementing new pricing plan for Council's consideration. He said Option "A" implemented the new price scale over two years, with an increase of 29.6% in year one and an increase of 20.3% in year two. He said Option "B" implemented the same price scale over three years, with a 13.2% increase in year one, a 16.4% increase in year two, and an 18.4% increase in year three.
