SUBJECT: CITY COUNCIL REORGANIZATION
BACKGROUND
The La Mirada Municipal Code provides that the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem shall be elected by the members of the City Council to serve one-year terms. In non-election years, the reorganization takes place at the first regular meeting in June. In municipal election years, the reorganization occurs after the City Council certifies the results of the election. This year, the reorganization schedule remained as the City's General Municipal Election were held.
FINDINGS
Procedure for Reorganization
1. The City Clerk declares a motion is in order to nominate a member of City Council to serve as Mayor for the upcoming year and calls for the motion.
2. The motion receives a second.
3. The City Clerk calls for a roll call vote.
4. The results of the motion are declared and the new Mayor takes the gavel.
The newly elected Mayor presides over the election of the Mayor Pro Tem in the same manner as outlined for selection of Mayor.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
It is recommended the City Clerk initiate the procedure for reorganization of the City Council.
