DAY OF SERVICE EVENT
BACKGROUND
Love La Mirada is a volunteer-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to serving La Mirada through collaboration among residents, local organizations, businesses, faith communities, and the City. Its annual Love La Mirada Day of Service brings volunteers together to complete service projects throughout the community that benefit residents, schools, parks, and other community spaces. Planned projects for the 2026 Day of Service include painting homes, assisting seniors, veterans, and individuals experiencing hardship, home and yard cleanups, and much more. Love La Mirada anticipates 400 to 500 volunteers participating this year.
FINDINGS
On July 17, 2026, Love La Mirada submitted a written request to host its annual Love La Mirada Day of Service kickoff at Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center. If approved, the kickoff would take place on Saturday, October 17, 2026 from approximately 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., with additional time before and after the event for set up and cleanup.
The morning kickoff will include a community pancake breakfast hosted by the Kiwanis Club, sponsor booths featuring community partners, and a brief program to welcome volunteers, recognize sponsors and project leaders, and share event information before volunteers depart for service projects throughout La Mirada.
Love La Mirada has requested the following assistance from the City:
• Use of the shaded pavilion area at Splash! and the area beneath it near the compass rose, with additional nearby space for sponsor booths, access to restroom facilities, and access before and after the event for setup and cleanup. • The setup and use of a riser or small stage, microphone and speaker system, and additional tables and chairs as needed based on volunteer attendance; and • Waive facility rental fees associated with the use of Splash! for Love La Mirada’s annual Day of Service.
The approximate cost for staffing and use of the facility for this event is $2,138.

2 RECOMMENDED ACTION
It is recommended the City Council:
1. Approve the request for use of Splash! La Mirada Regional Aquatics Center for the Love La Mirada Day of Service; and
2. Waive all rental fees with the associated use.
