SUBJECT: CONSIDERATION OF AWARD OF CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT TO KORMEX CONSTRUCTION, INC. FOR THE DECOMPOSED GRANITE
PATH AND PLANTER SEAT WALL IMPROVEMENTS AT LA PUENTE
PARK IN THE AMOUNT OF $286,120.00
BACKGROUND
On April 22, 2022, the City issued a Notice Inviting Informal Bids for La Puente Community Park Decomposed Granite Path Improvements - Bid No. 22-554 (“Project”). The Notice Inviting Informal Bids for the Project was advertised in The San Gabriel Valley Tribune as well as in various construction industry related publications.
The scope of work for the Project generally includes the construction of approximately 8,840 square feet of a decomposed granite walking path with a 6 inch wide colored concrete header bordering the path and a raised planter seat wall with a decorative cap along the southern property line of St. Joseph’s school.
A bid opening was conducted on May 3, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. The City received one (1) bid for the Project, from Gentry General Engineering, Inc., in the amount of $452,046.00, which was well above the Engineer’s estimate. As the contract documents and specifications for the Project provides that the City reserves the right to reject any or all bids, Staff recommended that the City Council reject all bids received and authorize Staff to re-advertise and solicit bids for the Project.
At the meeting of May 10, 2022, the City Council took action to reject all bids and approve the plans and specifications for the Project with a new title of Decomposed Granite Path and Planter Seat Wall Improvements at La Puente Park; and authorized Staff to re-advertise and solicit bids for the Project.
DISCUSSION
On May 13, 2022, the City issued a new notice inviting bids for the decomposed granite path and planter seat wall improvements at La Puente Park as Bid No. 22-555.
