Cheri: Thank you for sending this and my apologies for my late reply.

Bryan I Ubaldo: I spoke with Cheri in March regarding the intersection at 50th and Orchard Lane / Mission Drive East. I live in Rancho La Quinta (RLQ), which is comprised of approximately 1000 homes, and I enter and exit at the RLQ gate on 50th. Predominantly I use it when traveling to Citrus Plaza (50th and Jefferson), or when visiting friends in The Estancias (approximately 45 homes). For both locations, I need to cross the Westbound lane and monitor traffic in the Eastbound lane to turn left. Navigating this intersection can be challenging and potentially dangerous because of blind spots and high-speed traffic. And, many of my neighbors feel the same way. About a year ago, I inquired with someone at the City, and was told that a traffic light / crosswalk at that intersection is included in a general plan, but has never been installed. Given the challenges, some form of traffic calming or control is warranted. I decided to pursue this again when I recently saw a new stop sign installed at the Jackson/ 51st intersection in Indio (picture attached) which is at the entrance to the Trilogy at the Polo Club community (1000+ homes). I believe the demographics here are very similar to those at Orchard and 50th. If a traffic light / pedestrian crosswalk is not deemed warranted at 48th and Orchard, perhaps a stop sign would be a good alternative. In any event, I believe some traffic mitigation action should be taken at the intersection of 48th and Orchard I MDE. 1 CITY COUNCIL & HOUSING AUTHORITY SPECIAL JOINT MEETING - JUNE 18, 2026

PUBLIC COMMENTS ON MATTERS NOT ON THE AGENDA - WRITTEN PUBLIC COMMENTS BY RESIDENT DAVID GIRLING - TRAFFIC MITIGATION SUGGESTIONS FOR THE AVENUE 50 & ORCHARD LANE / MISSION DRIVE EAST INTERSECTION If public comment at an upcoming Planning Commission or City Council meeting would be beneficial, I am happy to provide one.
