Budget Study Session|27
Fire
• LVFD's budget philosophy remains driven by data, community need, and comprehensive strategic planning.
• External global factors, new mandatory operational practices and internal city policy changes are primary catalysts
• Total calls for service at all time high, reaching trigger points for department growth • The 2024-2025 budget indicates a 5.4% increase in operating costs, which is primarily the result of economic inflationary costs, new implementation of a fleet replacement program, and a mandatory LA regional communications interoperability subscription. 4.4% increase in personnel costs remains the result of the current LVFA labor MOU.
• Department cost recovery efforts continue to be strong and effective, resulting in close to 12% return on investment.
• Anticipated cost recovery revenue to peak at historical high of $1,800,000 Budget Study Session|28
Personnel Requests Highlights
• CRA/SOC projected a need
for an additional staffed
engine company, which
would cost upwards of
$1,600,000
• Triggers included increased
high hazard development
and call volume
• Call volume increased
annually to 4,426 in CY 2023,
up 524 from 3,902 in CY 2022
• Proposed paramedic squad
plan of 3 add'l firefighters
meets service need
yet reduces fiscal impact by
50% vs. add'l engine
company
• County DHS evaluating EMS
flex staffing, allowing units to
remain in service during
low acuity transports
