PRESENTATIONS
3 SUBJECT: PROCLAMATION RECOGNIZING 70 YEARS OF THE LAGUNA OPEN BEACH
VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT
RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council:
1. Adopt the Proclamation recognizing 70 years of the Laguna Open Beach Volleyball Tournament.
SUMMARY OF THE MATTER
This agenda item presents a Proclamation recognizing the 70th anniversary of the Laguna Open Beach Volleyball Tournament which is the world’s longest-running beach volleyball tournament. The event, held in Laguna Beach remains committed to its grassroots beginning while evolving to attract the best players in the game.
The action proposed is ceremonial and does not have a fiscal or environmental impact. Staff recommend that the City Council adopt the Proclamation to honor the event’s long-standing significance to the Laguna Beach community.
DISCUSSION
The Laguna Open Beach Volleyball Tournament, founded in 1955, is a cherished local tradition at Main Beach where the players and fans are together on the sand. The 70th anniversary marks a significant milestone, as the longest running continuous beach volleyball tournament in the world.
Adopting this Proclamation shows the City’s commitment to honoring its cultural and recreational history and the people who have made this event possible.
FINANCIAL ANALYSIS
The recommended action has no financial impact to the budget.
ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
This action is not subject to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) pursuant to CEQA Guidelines Section 15378 because it does not constitute a “project” as defined in the CEQA statute. The recommended action is ceremonial in nature and will not result in a direct or reasonably foreseeable indirect physical change in the environment.
