CONSENT
17 SUBJECT: AD HOC COMMITTEE ON LAGUNA BEACH’S CENTENNIAL YEAR RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Council:
1. It is recommended that the City Council form an ad hoc committee, consisting of Council Member Jones and Mayor pro Tem Orgill, to guide and advise planning and implementation of any Citydirected activities associated with Calendar Year 2027, which would be 100 years since the City was incorporated.
SUMMARY OF THE MATTER
Calendar year 2027 will mark the City’s 100th anniversary of its June 29, 1927 incorporation date. Activities that may celebrate the City’s Centennial could include, but not be limited to:
• Linking existing events (such as Patriot’s Day, Fete de Musique, arts festival activities, Coast Film Festival, Pageant of the Masters, Art in Nature event, and Hospitality Night) to the Centennial. • Planning one or more major events – at the start of the year, on the anniversary itself, and possibly a year-end closing event – that are new or one-time only. • Working with any interested community group for Centennial-related events of their own. • Any other activities, programs, or projects (such as public art or other cultural/heritage events) that the community deems appropriate.
This agenda item authorizes the creation of an ad hoc committee to help advise staff and guide in the community engagement process associated with the Centennial and any planned events / activities.
FINANCIAL ANALYSIS
There will likely be some amount TBD authorized for Centennial-related activities incorporated in the FY 26-27 and FY 27-28 budgets.
