Dear Laguna Beach City Council Members,
I own the property and live at Blumont St. and I understand that you may soon be voting on a $500,000 matching gift to support community arts organizations in our city. 1 am an enthusiastic supporter of our arts organizations, as are many Laguna Beach residents. regularly see other residents in attendance at fundraisers of our community non-protits.
This past summer, I hosted two fundraisers at my home for a couple of these wonderful organizations: The Laguna Playhouse and the newly established Opera Laguna.
I think support for our arts organizations will serve to make them more accessible to the community. I know the Opera Laguna principals are communicating with The Laguna Playhouse management to use the playhouse facility for one of their events this summer.
In speaking to contacts at the Playhouse, I understand that they are looking at ways to provide priority to Laguna's community arts nonprofits in booking their annual dates, and their production calendar will be built around these partnerships. As a longtime supporter of the arts, I think it will be valuable for organizations like the Playhouse to both share their space and give local organizations the time they need to plan their seasons. I understand they have been working on securing pledges from the community to demonstrate support for this plan and I intend to support it.
