Recap of Minutes
PRESENT: Commissioners: Donna Ballard, Michael Ervin, Sindi Schwartz (arrived 5:02 p.m.), Adam Schwerner, Carl Smith, and Nicole Strathman (arrived 5:13 p.m.).
ABSENT: Commissioner: Joan Gladstone and Pat Kollenda.
STAFF: Siân Poeschl, Cultural Arts Manager, Mike McGregor, Arts Program Coordinator and Karen Wood, Public Art Coordinator.
Michael Ervin called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
Items for Discussion and Action:
Public Art Installation – Anita Street Beach Access – Staff Wood provided an overview of the project and introduced artist Kevin Myers. Mr. Myers presented his proposal, provided material samples, and spoke about its durability. Mr.
Myers noted the final design would be a continuous image across the mosaic tiles. A motion was made to approve the proposal as presented. Motion: Schwerner. Second: Ballard. Yeas: Ballard, Ervin, Schwartz, Schwerner, Smith, Strathman. Noes: None.
Art in Public Places – 501 Glenneyre Street (Glenneyre Parking Structure) – Staff Poeschl presented the proposal by artist Arne Quinze. Adam Schwerner noted the final artwork would be finished with colored automotive paint, fired onto the aluminum of the sculpture. Staff Poeschl noted lighting could be incorporated into the artwork. Carl Smith spoke about the scale of the proposed installation. A motion was made to: 1) Approve the proposal as presented; 2) Direct staff to coordinate with the artist to develop details and timing of the installation and return to the Arts Commission with a final installation method. Motion: Schwerner. Second: Smith. Yeas: Ballard, Ervin, Schwartz, Schwerner, Smith, Strathman. Noes: None.

Art in Public Places – 501 Glenneyre Street (Glenneyre Parking Structure) – Staff Poeschl provided an overview of the project, noting previous approvals for the installation of a sculpture by artist Arne Quinze, and presented the additional request for funding to pay for transportation of the artwork, inclusion of lighting, public reception event, and installation of an identifying plaque. Staff noted the funds would be allocated from the Art-in-Lieu Fund and provided an overview of its current budget and expected upcoming expenses. A motion was made to: 1) Approve the installation method for the sculptural work “A Breeze, Floating Bloom” as provided by the Artist, Arne Quinze; and 2) Approve miscellaneous costs which will include lighting, transportation of the sculpture, artist reception, identifying plaque, etc., not to exceed $15,000. Motion/Second: Kollenda/Smith. Yeas: Ballard, Ervin, Gladstone, Kollenda, Schwartz, Smith, Strathman. Noes: None.
