Kalani Gee Statement (ESC)
Hello Councilmembers, thank you for the chance to apply for reappointment to the Environmental Sustainability Committee.
During my recent term, I have had the privilege of serving as Vice Chair of this committee and Head of the Natural Resources Subcommittee. In these roles, I've had the opportunity to deepen my involvement with the community I've lived in for 24 years. This past year, my subcommittee has supported local organizations such as the Laguna Ocean Foundation, partnered with City Code Enforcement to help drive tangible change, and collaborated with student liaisons to develop public educational materials. I feel fortunate to get to see the impacts of these projects happen in real time across our community.
I have a degree in Environmental Studies with a focus on Environmental Health from the University of Washington, along with experience interning at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and serving as a student sustainability consultant on a project for Nordstrom. I began environmental advocacy at a young age, running a Heisler Park tidepool health research project as a student at LBHS and volunteering in Molokai for native plant restoration efforts.
I am eager to continue contributing to this committee by combining my experience as Vice Chair with my professional and volunteer background in sustainability. I am deeply passionate about the work this committee does, and I hope for the opportunity to continue advancing the projects I am currently working on. Thank you for your time and consideration.
