Monitoring Notes:

Concrete was exposed under the tree on the north and southwest side. 1-2 roots were discovered on the south side of trunk at about 5- below top of grade. Suspected r
inches found. The tree s visible roots are circling and girdling trunk.

Additionally, ficus roots were found to be girdling trunk. No eucalyptus roots extending towards street were exposed. One large ficus root was exposed. Tree is recommended for removal due to the lack of structural roots observed within the first foot of soil during the air spading and within the excavation limits of the stormwater infrastructure on the west and north side of the tree; the suspected shallow rooting depth, the severe degree of lean; poor health and project impacts. Final grade surrounding the tree is anticipated to be approximately 8 lower than current surface.

Monitoring Notes:

Tree has large structural roots on the north side that have grown over the root appears to be a severed root on the north side of the tree. An approximately 2 inch root has been severed in the past, and this root is severely decayed; the wood is soft and disintegrating. Tree is recommended for removal due to root guard proximity to trunk, suspected shallow rooting depth, declining health and impacts to roots requiring the removal of 30% of the root volume within the TPZ. The proposed finished grade of the project would be approximately 4 lower than existing.

Monitoring Notes:

Tree has root barrier installed 7inches from trunk fully encompassing it. The trunk has been girdled by concrete most of the circumference of the trunk, over 80% of the trunk has been damaged by concrete. No structural roots were exposed. Tree is recommended for removal due to root barrier proximity to trunk, past damaged to lower trunk/root collar and project impacts that will result in the root collar being above grade. The final grade is expected to be 2 lower than existing sidewalk.

Monitoring Notes:

Excavation was conducted via a shovel and with the air spade. Excavation occurred to approximately 20 inches below surface. Tree is fully encompassed by root barrier that is assumed to be 24 inches deep. Drainage pipes were placed on either side of the tree, and the tree has engulfed one of these pipes.

Minimal roots are observed on the outside of the root barrier. These roots are small, from less than half an inch in diameter, up to 1 inch. Roots are observed, though they are assumed to be originating from underneath the root barrier, or somewhere lower than the excavation occurred where the root barrier was broken. Finish grade is anticipated to be 2 inches lower than current. No structural roots would be impacted by this work. This tree is recommended for a removal due to the proximity of the root guard to the trunk, unknown structural root stability and lean.

Monitoring Notes:

Original layer of sidewalk beneath the surface level layer of sidewalk found approximately 10 inches below surface. Several larger roots have grown over root barrier. Root barrier was dug out by shovel to a depth of 24 inches. A few small roots under .25 in diameter were observed to be pushing out from below the root barrier. Tons of small fibrous roots growing over the root barrier in between sidewalk layers. Minimal structural roots observed. Two larger roots approximately 2 to 3 inches in diameter are observed on the north side of the tree. Tree is recommended for removal due to the proximity of root barrier to trunk as it encompasses the entire trunk, anticipated construction impacts, and lean. Final grade is anticipated to be 4 lower than existing grade. Arboricultural Construction Monitoring Form Date of Report April 3, 2026

Monitoring Notes:

Root barrier was found to be fully encompassing tree underneath second layer of sidewalk. Three large structural roots were observed to be growing over the root barrier approximately 2 to 5 inches in diameter. One root appears to have been severed and is rotting out. Drainage pipes have been placed in close proximity to tree, resulting in the tree engulfing one of these pipes. Large roots were observed on the north and west side of tree. Tree is recommended for removal due to root guard installation encompassing trunk, the proximity of the root guard to the trunk, the previously damaged root that is exhibiting signs of decay with no compartmentalization and anticipated project impacts that would result in the removal of 30% of the total root volume in the TPZ. Final grade is anticipated to be 3 lower than existing.

Monitoring Notes:

Root collar excavation was conducted with shovels to a depth of approximately 13 inches below the surface. This exposed several large structural roots that range from 1 to 15 inches in diameter. The large buttress root measuring 15 inches is on the south side of the tree, extending towards the building. This is at surface level. Root guard was exposed approximately 13 inches below the surface. All of the large structural roots visible are growing over the root barrier.

A drainage pipe was installed on the east side of the tree. The tree trunk is growing into the drainage pipe. The tree is recommended for removal due to anticipated construction impacts requiring more than 30% removal of the root volume within the TPZ. The finish grade is anticipated to be 1 lower than existing.

roots were collected for pathogen sampling. The tree has been previously been recommended for removal based off of the poor structure, assumed root damage from past infrastructure development and repair, and current impacts to the CRZ. If the City retains this tree, final grade is anticipated to remain the same, and based on the findings of the exploratory excavation the proposed hardscape could be installed without cutting roots 4 or larger within the visible and currently exposed TPZ. Tree remains in poor health and structure and is exhibiting signs of decline similar to the failed Tree J. 89 1

Monitoring Notes:

Root collar excavation was conducted with hand tools and air spade to a depth of approximately 12 inches below the surface. The second layer of concrete sidewalk was exposed on the east side of the tree. There was approximately 4- 6 between the second layer of sidewalk and the root barrier. This exposed several small feeder roots growing over the root barrier and where the root 98 10
barrier was broken. Also, one larger root that range was approximately 2 inches in diameter was exposed where the root barrier had failed on the south side of the tree. On the west side of the tree the root barrier was in contact with the trunk and the trunk had started to engulf the root barrier. No roots were visible at surface level on west side of tree. The tree is recommended for removal due to proximity of root guard to trunk, damage to trunk from root guard. The finish grade is anticipated to be 1 than existing.

Monitoring Notes:

Root collar excavation was conducted with hand tools and air spade to a depth of approximately 3 inches below the surface. This exposed root barrier that goes on all sides of the tree. Several small feeder roots were exposed where the root collar was found. The original potting soil was discovered near the suspected root collar. No structural roots were visible 3 below the surface, which is within the majority of the grading limits for hardscape installation. The finish grade is anticipated to remain the same. The tree is a candidate for preservation based off of the minimal anticipated project impacts and fair health with the assumption that no further damage occur to the tree from project related activities and the root barrier can be removed from 3 sides of the tree.

22 Monitoring Notes:

Root collar excavation was conducted with hand tools and air spade to a depth of approximately 10 inches below the surface. Additionally, bricks and mortar were removed that were previously abutting the trunk during the excavation work. No root barrier was found. Several small feeder roots were exposed where the root collar is suspected. Two roots on the east side of the tree were exposed under the mortar approximately 3-4 below soil surface that range between 2-3 . These roots rather than extending out horizontally from the tree trunk have begun to circle the trunk. Mortar remains stuck in the trunk of the tree on multiple locations. The finish grade is anticipated to be 1.5 inches lower than existing. The tree has been previously been recommended for removal based off of the poor structure, lean, assumed root damage from past infrastructure development and repair, and current impacts to the CRZ. If the City retains this tree, based on the findings of the exploratory excavation the proposed hardscape could be installed without removing roots larger than 4 in diameter.
