Subject: Public Comment- Mission Hospital Laguna Beach Emergency Services June 8, 2026
Dear Mayor Orgill, City Clerk McKay, and Members of the Laguna Beach City Council, Thank you for your efforts in addressing the proposed closure or reduction of emergency services at Mission Hospital, Laguna Beach.

As Laguna Beach homeowners, we are deeply concerned about the potential loss of local emergency room services.

This issue extends beyond healthcare convenience; it is fundamentally a matter of public safety.

Laguna Beach is a unique community with limited access routes, significant traffic congestion during peak periods, an aging resident population, and millions of annual visitors. As you all know, during emergencies, minutes matter.

Whether the situation involves a heart attack, stroke, serious injury, wildfire, mudslide, or other disaster, timely access to emergency care can mean the difference between life and death.

The community has invested in this facility over many years. In 2014, Bill and Sue Gross made a $10 million gift specifically supporting emergency services at Mission Hospital Laguna Beach, and additional community philanthropy helped fund the expansion and renovation of the Sue and Bill Gross Emergency Department. The community has demonstrated its commitment to maintaining emergency care in Laguna Beach, and we are confident they would do so in the future.

We respectfully ask the Council to pursue every available option to preserve emergency services in our community, including discussions with Providence, state regulators, elected officials, major donors, and community stakeholders. If maintaining the current model is not sustainable, we urge the City to explore every alternative that would preserve meaningful emergency care capabilities within Laguna Beach.

Thank you for your leadership and for advocating on behalf of the residents, visitors, and first responders who depend on timely emergency care.

Respectfully,
John and Evie DiCiaccio

Subject: Save The Hospital
PLEASE do not throw away the importance of having an emergency room at the hospital here in town. PLEASE sell St.

Catherine's School and invest in the hospital. The hospital is so important to the residents of this town. People could die being transported out of town. PLEASE get your priorities straight. You are spending all this money on a useless promenade rather than taking care of the people you represent. This scares me so very much as I have used this emergency room raising my son, my dying husband and for myself. How do I drive myself out of town for an emergency???
