Subject: A letter to Katrina Foley - no spraying in Aliso Creek Subject: NO Pesticide Spraying in Aliso Creek and Channel City Council Meeting - 7/7/26 - No pesticide spraying in Aliso Hello Councilman Alex: Following up on Jinger's email below, this is an important opportunity to help protect Aliso Creek and channel from pesticide spraying. Since spraying has stopped in Trabuco and San Juan creeks, we believe Aliso should be included as well. Your support on this issue could make a real difference and help build momentum for broader community action. We would appreciate it if you could bring this forward at the Council meeting on July 7th and ask your fellow council members to join you in writing a letter of request to Supervisor Katrina Foley that Aliso be included, while the issue is still receiving strong attention.

Thank you and sincerely, Charlotte Masarik, Bluebelt Coalition Board member From: Jinger Wallace

Hi Alex,
Here is the 2025 County Report for spraying in Aliso Creek and Aliso Channel in order to eliminate nuisance weeds.

The spraying of these two sites are listed in Table 1 starting on page 11 by date on many pages. You'll see Aquamaster and Roundup Custom named as the herbicide used. The county uses a proprietary blend of the herbicides, along with the adjuvants which can be problematic as they carry the same warning labels that the herbicides do.

Table 1 Aquatic Pesticide Use starting on page 11 shows Aliso Creek and Aliso Creek Channel sprayed 15 times. Specific dates of spraying are listed on Pages 11, 19-21, 28, 29, 30 up through the last spraying date for 2025 which was on 11/3/26. On each date the number of acres sprayed varies between 1 to 4 acres. Keep in mind Aliso Creek is only 19.8 miles long.

Table 2 analyzes the presence of Glyphosate in Aliso Creek and Channel after spraying. See Sampling and Analysis Summary for Glyphosate Table 2 page 30 listing the presence of Glyphosate and AMPA (-a residue of glyphosate) in Aliso Creek and Channel.

I hope this is what you were hoping for and gives you the backup to persuade Katrina the importance of including Aliso Creek and Aliso Channel in the creeks which will no longer be sprayed. If you'd like more years of documented spraying I can provide them too. I want to thank Bethany Nelms for the data. She and OC Creeks have worked hard to begin this process and to gain protection for San Juan and Trabuco Creeks.

Look forward to the next steps. Let me know how else I can help.

Many thanks!
Jinger
