Good evening Mayor and Council Members,
My name is Caren Liuzzi, and | live on West Street. First, I would like to thank you for procuring the permit to use goats on Aliso Peak to clear the invasive, flammable brush. Our community was thrilled when they arrived on September 11th, as they had previously been used on a biannual basis for fire safety.
Unfortunately, the goats were removed due to the extreme heat and humidity before making significant progress. As fire season quickly approaches, I reached out to Chris Gort with the LBFD regarding our wildfire concerns. He has been very helpful and explained that the next step is modifying the permit to allow hand crews to complete the work. The LBFD is currently in the process of acquiring estimates for this.
Attached is a current photo of Aliso Peak, along with two photos from April 2018 and October 2018 showing what the hillside looks like during the clearing process.
I am writing to ask that you allocate the necessary funds to clear this brush. West Street Canyon has never burned, which significantly increases our danger level, and it would be a shame to let this permit go unused.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Caren Liuzzi
