I’m messaging about the “updating” of park equipment at the Dinosaur Park.

PLEASE keep the concrete benches, tables and trash receptacles. They are far superior to the dinky, PVC laden, metal/plastisol items you want to use to replace them. The concrete items are very sturdy, age very well and look much better overall for the natural setting of a park.

On a side note, please stop purchasing thinga that will be used long term made of plastic and pvc products. It’s a horrendous product from start to finish. We need this eliminated from our environment and you, as a city, can assist with this by not purchasing the product. Please make a difference for our future citizens.

Thank you,
D Sandoval

Dear City Council,
Please do NOT change out the concrete benches, tables, and, trash cans for metal. In the opinion of my husband and I, homeowners in the City of Laguna Hills, concrete is more durable, more economical, and aesthetically just looks better. Get a concrete company to repair what needs fixing and power wash what needs cleaning. Spend the rest on crime prevention, please! Kind Regards,
Erik & Lori Huber

Please use the money for a more needed purpose. Concrete tables and benches look much better than what is being proposed. I’ve seen those proposed tables be ruined by folks putting hot dishes or portable grills on them at Stockport Park. In addition worn coatings and rust.

Thank you,
Hakan Civan

This email is regarding the topic of replacing the concrete benches at Dinosaur Park.

Metal benches are not the best replacement option ‐ however what is the reason for this move? Are the concrete benches a safety issue? Are they a hazard or otherwise some reason for this even happening? What’s the economic impact? Is this already funded? When will this occur and do the residence of Laguna Hills have any say on this?
Thank you

Good Afternoon
I was made aware that there is a proposal to replace the concrete benches and tables being at The Dinosaur Park next to the Community Center. I would like to state, for the record, that I am opposed to this. The concrete benches, tables, etc. are still in working condition. Unless these items are broken beyond repair or a safety concern, replacing them is simply a waste of money and time. There are plenty of other issues that could use funding.

Thank you

Subject: Suzanne Mangum ‐ Item 4.12 Replacing concrete with metal at park Hello,
I'd like to vote against the city replacing the concrete fixtures at the Dinosaur park next to the LH Community Center.

First, the concrete items appear to still be in good shape, this seems like a waste of money to replace something that isn't broken.  The concrete is more durable than metal and isn't as hot to sit on during the summer months, not to mention the metal bench replacements have a "woven" texture to them on the seat part and leave an unsightly mark on the back of legs, especially when wearing a skirt or shorts.

Second, The concrete trash cans are much more stable during Santa Ana winds and weather and aren't as easy to fall over leaving a mess.

Third, concrete picnic table are more stable and people can't just shuffle them around, unless they are bolted down.  Also, same as the bench, concrete is less hot during the summer.  I've seen other parks have metal picnic tables and eventually they start to rust and the metal can become bent and even sharp in some areas that start to break down with rust.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or call me at 714‐743‐9910.

Short term rentals (STRs) can be eliminated if our City Council will act to stop the spread of this blight in single family dwellings.  A neighboring city, Laguna Niguel has already taken action to prevent this use and so has Fountain Valley who passed recent city restrictions.  Those cities realized allowing STRs to legally operate would require expensive regulatory management.  Although the City of Big Bear does allow this type of business within their City, they also maintain considerable compliance enforcement personnel along with regulatory law.

Non‐homeowner occupied STRs have been operating here within Laguna Hills for an unknown time.  They  have been in business unregulated, uncontrolled, and unlicensed.  They are by IRS definition, a business; they produce income and are legally required to pay federal tax.  Keep in mind STRs do not pay any City bed tax as do the legally operated and zoned hotels within our City.  They generate a negative net effect by removing potential business tax revenue that legally operated hotels provide.

If you care about what can happen with your home or street when one of these STRs begins operating nearby, then there is no reason why the City Council should not unanimously move to stop this use.  From experience, we had no idea what these businesses were or how they could affect a street until one started operating near us.  They can begin operating in any dwelling throughout our City including next to you! Some have the opinion that restricting STRs is an infringement of a homeowner's right to use their property as they see fit but, continuing to allow this use is no different than any other zoning code violation.  Recent spikes in home burglaries within the City can only be made worse by additional strange vehicles, equipment delivery trucks and event parties with unfamiliar occupants coming and going at all hours.  For certain, those activities will not make our homes any better or safer!!!!
Finally, the STR dilemma is a business venture made possible through the internet for off‐site property owners to earn easy income while not having any regard for the negative effects put upon their neighbors.

Most sincerely,
Mary and Bruce Freeman
