Subject: General Comments from Ana Tucci ‐ requesting more SRO's Hello,
Due to a schedule conflict I’m unable to make the city meeting tomorrow to make my public speech, so sending here in hopes it will be shared in public comments. Please let me know if there is anything else I need to fill out to make sure it’s read.
“There have been several incidents at our public schools within SVUSD of intruders on campus and teens bringing guns to school. It’s become increasingly clear that there are not enough School Resource Officers on campus to deal with these daily threats, let alone the reality that we live in where school shootings are becoming more common. Gun violence is now the leading cause of death in children, and it’s no longer just accidents. Society’s need to arm themselves and their devotion to the 2nd amendment has created an influx of easily accessed weapons by children.
According to the organization Besmartforkids.org ¾ of school shooters acquired a firearm the home of a parent or close relative. When these kids bring guns to school with the intent to harm others it creates a real fear for other students, teachers and parents. I know we’ve all heard of the tragedies of school shootings from Sandy Hook, Uvalde, Tennessee, Parkland and more. Let’s not wait to become the next tragedy and take proactive steps to secure our schools. Please make safety a priority and invest in more School Resource officers.” Ana Tucci,
