DISCUSSION ITEM
1. Charter School Traffic Study
Public Works Director Scott provided a report on the Charter School Traffic Study.
Mayor Gennawey asked if both schools located at the site of study were at maximum enrollment. Public Works Director Scott stated that school district officials have confirmed that they are at capacity. Mayor Pro Tem Rains asked whether there was adequate signage to indicate that there was a newly implemented left-turn lane. Public Works Director Scott confirmed that there was adequate signage, that notifications had been sent out to parents, and that school staff was on site, along with Laguna Niguel Police Services, to facilitate the preferred traffic pattern. Mayor Pro Tem Rains expressed concern that there was no signage for motorists coming down Adelanto Drive and City Council Regular Meeting Minutes Page 3 of 5 August 16, 2022 suggested a flashing light be added. Public Works Director Scott confirmed that the Public Works Department was closely monitoring the new traffic pattern and Council Member Minagar clarified that the studies conducted by the consultant team have determined that additional signage for oncoming traffic is not warranted.
Discussion ensued between City Council Members and staff.
A MOTION was made by Council Member Minagar, seconded by Council Member Sharma, to:
1. Approve the strategic red curb locations on Adelanto Drive and Via Acaso Drive to prevent blocked driveways; and,
2. Approve removal of 25 feet of red curb on westbound Adelanto Drive between Monte Verde Drive and Via Acaso Drive to extend the loading/unloading zone.
