SUBJECT: Cancellation of the November 21, 2023 Regular City Council Meeting and Rescheduling the Selection of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem to the November 7, 2023 Regular City Council Meeting
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council:
1. Cancel the Regular City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 21, 2023; and,
2. Reschedule the Selection of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem to the November 7, 2023 Regular City Council Meeting.
BACKGROUND
During the April 18, 2023 City Council meeting, the City Council approved the 2023 holiday facility closure schedule as well as the cancelation of specified City Council meetings. During the meeting, however, staff did not include cancelation of the Tuesday, November 21, 2023 regular City Council meeting which falls just two days before the Thanksgiving holiday.
Additionally, per City Council Policy, in odd-number years, the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem shall be selected at the second regular meeting in November and the terms of office shall begin immediately after that meeting. For 2023, an odd-number year, the selection of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem is currently scheduled for the Tuesday, November 21, 2023 City Council meeting.
ANALYSIS
Because the November 21, 2023 City Council meeting falls just two-days before the Thanksgiving holiday staff recommends that the City Council consider cancellation of the meeting. Additionally, since adopted City Council Policy dictates that the annual selection of the Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem take place at this meeting, staff also recommends that the City Council consider rescheduling this action to instead take place at the November 7, 2023 City Council meeting.
ALTERNATIVES CONSIDERED
The City Council may decide to make no changes to the November 21, 2023 City Council meeting schedule.
FISCAL REVIEW
There is no fiscal impact as a result of this action.
CONCLUSION
Staff recommends that the City Council:
Cancel the Regular City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, November 21, 2023; and,
2. Reschedule the Selection of Mayor and Mayor Pro Tem to the November 7, 2023 Regular City Council Meeting.
