Military Support Committee Re-Appointments
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the City Council complete the Military Support Committee re appointment process .
BACKGROUND
The City of Laguna Niguel annually opens an application period for vacancies on its various Commissions and Committees to encourage resident participation in local government. The Military Support Committee provides support, recognition , and outreach to the City's adoptive military units and families .
Interviews for the Military Support Committee were conducted at a Special City Council meeting on January 15, 2026 , with Mayor Johns , Council Member Oddo, and Council Member Winstead in attendance . At that time, there were 15 vacancies on the Committee .
Thirteen appointments were then made at the meeting leaving two vacancies . The City Counc il was unable to take action on the re-appointments of incumbents Daniel Abrams and Jessica Chiaverini , since Council Member Winstead recused herself.
ANALYSIS
Following review of the applications and interviews , Mayor Johns and Council Member Oddo recommended the re-appointment of Daniel Abrams and Jessica Chiaverini to the Military Support Committee .
Both applicants have prior experience serving on the Military Support Committee and have demonstrated continued interest in supporting the City's military-related programs and special events . Each re-appointment would be for a two-year term ending December 31 , 2027 .
