REPORT TO CITY COUNCIL
To:Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council
From:Jason Simpson, City Manager
Prepared by:Johnathan Oliver Skinner, Director Of Community Services Date:March 25, 2025
Subject:Bunny Trunk Hop Road Closures - 2025
Recommendation
Approve the road closure for the Bunny Trunk Hop Event on Saturday, April 19th, 2025.
Background
The Community Services Department is excited to bring back the highly successful Bunny Trunk Hop to Historic Main Street. Two years ago, we added a unique and fun twist on kids gathering eggs by integrating a trunk or treat. Local groups and businesses came out in full force, decorating their car trunks with spring-themed decorations where thousands of children walked from one decorated car to another, collecting candy and treats as they progressed. The event provided a great opportunity for the community to come together and enjoy the start of the spring season.
The event supported local businesses, promoted the downtown area, and provided a fun and family-friendly experience for residents.
Discussion
The 2025 Bunny Trunk Hop is planned to take place on Main Street in Downtown Lake Elsinore from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Community Services Department, Public Works Department, and Sheriff’s Department will coordinate resources to ensure public safety. As a result, staff is recommending street closures on Main Street between Heald and Sulphur as detailed in Attachment 1. It is recommended that these street closures remain in place from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The street closures will be enforced by Law Enforcement personnel. The road closures may be altered to accommodate event needs with the approval of the City Engineer.
Bunny Trunk Hop
This year, the Lake Elsinore Historical Society, Studio 395, and the Chamber of Commerce are coming together to showcase their 2026 History Days event during the Bunny Trunk Hop.
Attendees will be able to "Hop into History" with a variety of activities and performances that highlight the rich history of Lake Elsinore.
Fiscal Impact
Costs for City personnel staffing will be accommodated via the Community Services special events budget.
