Subject:Agreement with Southern California Mulch, Inc. (SoCal Mulch) for the Mulch Maintenance of Citywide Streetscapes
Recommendation
Approve and authorize the City Manager to execute an agreement with SoCal Mulch, Inc. in an amount not to exceed $159,015.63 for the Mulch Maintenance of Citywide Streetscapes in such final form as approved by the City Attorney and authorize the City Manager to execute change orders not exceeding a 10% contingency of $15,901.56 for unanticipated costs.
Background
A Request for Quote (RFQ) was emailed to three local companies to request an informal bid for the delivery and installation of 4,580 CY of mulch by way of a blower truck in the city streetscapes.
This will include medians, parkways and other areas as needed. The city will provide the material that the contractor will pick up from the CR&R transfer station. The following were responsive contractors.

SoCal Mulch $159,015.63
Diversified Landscape Co. $229,000.00
AG Organics, Inc. $261,976.00
Discussion
The Mulch will be utilized at Landscaped Parkways throughout the City as well as at City owned Parks. Mulch reduces water evaporation, which in turn saves on water cost. Mulch also reduces soil erosion up to 85 percent. Mulch in the landscape and slope areas should each renewed every year.
