August 12, 2025
MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER at 6:05 p.m. by Mayor Chase in the Executive Board Room, 5000 Clark Avenue, Lakewood, California.

PARKS, RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES LONG-RANGE PLAN Valarie Frost, Director of Recreation and Community Services, introduced Jose Rodriguez, Senior Project Manager, Director of GIS Services at MIG, Inc., who displayed slides and provided an overview of the draft long range plan, which would establish a clear set of priorities for future action related to capital projects for parks and community centers, park maintenance and upkeep, and the delivery of recreation facilities, programs, services, and community events. It was the recommendation of staff that the City Council receive and file the completed Parks, Recreation and Community Services Long-Range Plan for the public record and reference the document as needed to reaffirm alignment with City goals, priorities, available resources and community needs. Additionally, it was recommended that the Park Development Committee undertake a systematic review of the Plan’s recommendations and, where applicable, collaborate with the Capital Improvement Program Committee.
Recreation and Community Services Commissioner Ted Spaseff expressed appreciation for his involvement in the process and noted the importance of MIG’s attention to detail and their approach with community engagement.
Staff and the consultant responded to questions and comments from the Council Members related to grant and other funding opportunities, evaluation of existing programs, addressing additional needs, community investment, and consideration of survey comments and feedback.

There being no further business to be brought before the City Council, Mayor Chase adjourned the meeting at 7:23 p.m.
