Fiscal Impact:
Appropriate $1,100,000 in grant funding which will be reimbursed in Fiscal Year’s 2024 and 2025. There is no City match requirement for this grant Background:
In April 2022, City staff requested $1,100,000 Community Project Funding (also known as Earmarks) to the House Appropriations Committee, to assist our City's Public Safety staff with acquiring traffic and safety equipment. The request includes: Thirty-nine (39) CCTV cameras, six (6) dash-mounted radars, five (5) 15 in. Fixed radar w/ amber flashers, and eight (8) handheld radars, to target areas within the City that have high crime and vehicular traffic fatalities. These funds are desired by our City to provide the type of assistance that saves lives of residents and visitors to our City.
The Office of Justice Programs within the DOJ requested that we apply to the 2023 Byrne Discretionary Grant in order to receive the allocated funding which resulted in accepting and awarding the City’s application in May 2023. Once all training certification and paperwork was completed, the City was given approval to purchase the equipment and installation needed for this project. The President signed into public law on December 29, 2023 the Consolidated Appropriations Act for FY2023, HR2617 which included the City’s project.
It is recommended that City Council approve the appropriation of $1,100,000 in reimbursable 1 5

There is no City match requirement for this grant.
