Mayor Parris and Housing Authority Members
From: Sonya Patterson, Director – Parks, Arts, Recreation, and Community Services Larissa De La Cruz, Director – Community Development
Subject:Lancaster University Center Lease Amended and Restated Lease Agreement Recommendation:

1. Approve amended and restated lease agreement for real property to Cal State Long Beach’s Extension Campus, the Lancaster University Center, through December 2024.

2. Authorize the Executive Director, or his designee, to sign all documents related to the lease agreement.

Fiscal Impact:

Lancaster Housing Authority to receive $5,375 per month in rent, resulting in revenue of $64,500 through the term of the lease.

Background:

Real property known as Lancaster University Center, located at 45356 Division Street, 93535, has been leased to California State Long Beach (CSULB), for its bachelor's degree program in engineering annually since 2013. In 2021 the agreement was amended to include adjustments to the monthly rent. The amended and restated agreement in 2022 outlined updates to maintenance and responsibilities and insurance coverage.

Staff recommends the approval of the amended and restated lease agreement with CSULB, as the lease of space to the university has provided a valuable resource for residents to pursue STEM education and career opportunities in the aerospace industry. Local companies like Northrop and Lockheed have hired graduates from the program, highlighting the strong demand for a skilled STEM workforce in the region.
