Adopt Resolution Authorizing the City Attorney to File and Pursue Civil Complaints for Drug Abatement, Abatement of Public Nuisance, Appointment of Receiver, and/or Related Actions on Behalf of the City Recommendation(s):
Adopt Resolution No. ______ authorizing the City Attorney to file and pursue civil complaints for drug abatement, abatement of public nuisance, appointment of receiver, and/or related actions on behalf of the City .
Nuisance properties, including, but not limited to properties on which narcotics activity is conducted, squatters take up residence and/or criminal activity is undertaken are a detriment to neighborhoods and the citizens of Lancaster. The Lancaster Municipal Code and California statutes each authorize the City to file civil actions to abate nuisances. Expeditious processing of such civil enforcement actions is in the City's best interest. Authorizing the City Attorney to routinely file, where appropriate, civil complaints for drug abatement, abatement of public nuisance and/or receivership actions would expedite the enforcement of California law and the Lancaster Municipal Code.
