Background:

In late August of this year, the Department of Veterans Affairs opened a state-of-the-art outpatient medical facility at their current address of 44439 17 th Street West, Lancaster, California, 93534, providing essential healthcare and support services to Veterans throughout the region. The new facility represents a vital resource for the local Veteran population. By changing the street name from 17 th Street West to Veterans Way, it will highlight the importance of the services and contributions of our Veterans, and make it easier for patients and their families to locate the clinic and access care.

This is a major milestone for area Veterans, as the clinic is twice the size of the current facility and offers new and expanded services. It provides primary care, mental health, social work, and all other services available at the current clinic, including a dedicated women’s health clinic with separate entrance, audiology, optometry, dental care, and more. 2 1

The street name change presents no competing interests with the public.

City staff recommends the approval of the proposed street name from 17th Street West to Veterans Way. Exhibit “A” of the Resolution is the aerial map depicting the specific portion of the proposed renaming of 17th Street West.
