Dear Mayor, Vice Mayor, and City Council,
My name is Brandy Perkins and I am the Chair of the Juneteenth Committee. I wanted to send an official letter in to express my gratitude for such a successful Juneteenth event. The journey to get to where we are now hasn’t gone unnoticed. Thank you for making sure that this year’s event was successful in all the ways possible where the city can assist.

I would like to highlight a few items that stood out this year that made Juneteenth better than last year. The monthly meetings with Melissa, Bree, and Todd were extremely helpful and helped provide additional direction. The “will do” VS “can do” approach made this year’s interactions extremely enjoyable to work with.

Bree created a feature for our vendors and all those requiring a waiver that made it much easier to ensure all required documents were obtained and stored in a secure database in a timely manner. Working and adjusting the mapping to accommodate the committee’s request to increase the number of tents this year for vendors showed how supportive the city is to make sure the event was successful.

Melissa, helped with all the meeting and also stepped up in the absence of Bree. Melissa displayed knowledge and experience with event coordination. Melissa wasn’t afraid to share best practices and voice her suggestions on what can enhance the flow of the event when it comes to placement.

I would also like to thank Debra for her hard work and involvement with obtaining and the processing of all required documents. I also want to acknowledge the finance department for the quick turnaround time when obtaining a business license for our vendors. Our goal is to make sure we as a committee complete action items decent and in order. The event space was kept clean the entire time and trash bins were never overflowing. I didn’t get the gentleman’s name, but he was pleasant and did his job with a smile.

Todd has a wonderful team and is an amazing leader. Todd has made the planning of Juneteenth, a pleasurable and peaceful process. With all the events that the city has, Todd and his team, made me feel like Juneteenth was at the top of their list of things to do during every interaction. Special thank you to all the employees involved that work hard behind the scenes that I haven’t had the pleasure of acknowledging.

I want to also thank Vice Mayor Minnie for her countless hours in making sure Juneteenth was successful. Every touch leading up to the event, has made a huge impact on the lives of the community. From the palm trees changing to support Juneteenth, to being a health and knowledgeable liaison between the city and the committee. Your hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.

I would also like to thank councilwoman Jennifer Torres- O’Callaghan for attending the meetings and providing great suggestions.

Oh behalf of the entire committee, I want to thank the entire Council, the City, and also the Parks and Recreation department.
