This vendor is certified to install the technology sourced various vendors details of which are not released to mitigate potential security risks or threats.
The technology sourced is vital to the daily operations of the officers who utilize the vehicles and for their safety. Cybersecurity related software is crucial to protecting the City from potential threats and risks while communication equipment and camera systems reduce the potential physical safety threats and risks to the officers. RATIFY THE PURCHASES OF EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE FOR THE TWENTY-
TWO NEW LATHROP POLICE DEPARTMENT FLEET VEHICLES AND APPROVE
RELATED BUDGET AMENDMENT
Due to the lead time of the equipment and the urgency to complete installation of the equipment in the newly purchased LPD vehicles the City Manager signed approval of the various purchases in October and November. The total expense related to this project for technological components including a ten percent contingency is $805,000. This expense was not budgeted in the LPD budget, therefore staff is requesting City Council approve a budget amendment of $805,000 from General Fund Reserves to Public Safety Police Operations to fund this expense and ratify the purchases of technological components from the various vendors.
REASON FOR RECOMMENDATION:
The upfitting of the LPD vehicles is vital to the utilization of the vehicles. Without the proper equipment the officers will not have the technology to communicate with anyone, nor will they have access to critical resources such as Computer Aided Dispatching (CAD). In order to use the previously purchased vehicles, this technology is required.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This expense was not budgeted in the current fiscal year budget and the following amendment of $805,000 from Equipment Reserves to the Police Operations Division as detailed below is requested.
Decrease Equipment Reserves
1010-243-0000 $805,000
Increase Appropriation
1010-40-30-450-30-00 $805,000
