APPROVE A CONSTRUCTION CONTRACT WITH ABIDE BUILDERS, INC. FOR MOSSDALE AND VALVERDE PARKS RENOVATION, CIP PK 24- 04 AND 25- 01
AND APPROVE BUDGET AMENDMENT
Staff request City Council approve a construction contract with Abide for the construction of the Project in the amount of $ 3, 066, 125. Staff further request approval of construction contingencies of $ 312, 000 for CIP PK 24- 04 and $ 140, 00 for PK 25- 01, totaling $ 452, 000, for a total Project construction cost not to exceed 3, 518, 125.
Sufficient funds were not allocated in the adopted Fiscal Year ( FY) 2025-6 budget to CIP PK 24- 04 and CIP PK 25- 01 to fund the special inspection services needed for the splash pads and play equipment; therefore, staff request a budget amendment of $ 100, 00to transfer $ 50, 000 from the Measure C fund ( 1060) to each CIP Project fund ( 3010) as detailed in the Fiscal Impact section, contingent upon approval by the Measure C Oversight Committee.
REASON FOR RECOMMENDATION:
The existing splash pads at both Community Parks are over 15 years old and serve residents throughout the City. The proposed improvements will provide larger and more modern splash pads with more features and water recycling systems that use less water than the existing systems. The proposed play equipment with rubberized surfacing underneath will provide new and more expansive physical activity venues for children.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The proposed construction contract with Abide is for $ 3, 066, 125. Construction contingencies are requested in the amount of $ 312, 000 for CIP PK 24- 04 and 140, 00 for CIP PK 25- 01, totaling $ 452, 000. City Council authorization is also requested to expend contingency funds as necessary to achieve the goals of the Project for a total Project construction cost not to exceed $ 3, 518, 125.
Staff request a budget amendment of $ 100, 00 for special inspection services with allocations of $ 50, 000 from the Measure C fund ( 1060) to each CIP Project fund 3010) as detailed below, contingent upon approval by the Measure C Oversight Committee:
