BACKGROUND:
The Temporary Animal Center was constructed in 2024 to provide a facility at which Lathrop Animal Services could house and care for animals under their purview. The facility consists of modular dog and cat kennels assembled into rows within weather - protected buildings. Also provided for the animals are four exterior recreation areas surfaced with artificial turf and enclosed in fencing.
The decking and walls within which the kennels are mounted have been chewed by dogs, and need repairs, followed by the installation of resilient surfacing. The artificial turf in the recreation areas has had holes dug into it, requiring replacement. The Project includes the completion of a breezeway, connection of the kennels' drainage system to the sanitary sewer line and parking for visitors.
REASON FOR RECOMMENDATION:
The proposed improvements will maintain the Temporary Animal Center' s level of service, and will support the safe and sanitary care of animals.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The proposed construction contract with Creative Property Renewal is for $ 170, 97.
A 20% construction contingency is requested in the amount of $ 34, 000 for a total construction cost not to exceed $ 204, 907.
