Volunteered with LARPD and as a YAV (Young Adult Volunteer) for the Livermore Public Library. Both of these were done for one summer.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
Littering is a big issue in parks as well as other public spaces. One way to address this may be to create signs to raise awareness, post on the Livermore website, and give reminders. Also, we can include more trash cans, and even organize trash-pickups as a way to get the community involved.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
We can show others what our issues of concern are, and let them propose solutions to the issues. This way, we can brainstorm together. Also, we can show them why it matters, and encourage them to raise awareness among their family and friends. We can organize presentations for younger students in schools, and arrange various activities such as weeding or trash pickups at parks for local residents to participate in.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission If you have participated in a Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission committee or activities, please describe your involvement:
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What experience, if any, have you had with other youth activities in Livermore? I have done volunteering with the Livermore Public Library and LARPD.

I am part of LARPD Volunteers and YAV Volunteers at the Livermore Public Library. I volunteered during this summer for three months and it was my first time volunteering in either. I enjoyed it a lot and would definitely volunteer again. I volunteered in areas such as senior services and storytimes at the library.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
One issue of great interest to me is climate change and one way we can see that addressed is by putting up posters of simple actions people can do to reduce carbon emissions, and we can also post a weekly newsletter to residents of some other things people can do, as well as informing them of what's happening in the city. Another issue is homelessness/poverty and we can have some clothing or toy drives which we can donate to shelters.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
We can have citywide programs for young people to participate in. Some program ideas would be educational activities combined with arts and crafts, or making posters to advocate for a cause.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission If you have participated in a Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission committee or activities, please describe your involvement:

15 Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.
I've volunteered at the Livermore Public Library Civic Center for two years (2019, 2022) as a Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) helping with the Summer Reading Program. During middle school, I was on the Spirit and Entertainment committee for three years, and the chairperson for one. I planned dances and hosted spirit weeks to help boost our school pride and ensure my fellow students had fun experiences at school.
Additionally, I was on the following committees: Sports Committee (2019-2022), Yearbook Committee (2020-2021), and the Business Committee (2021-2022). Every year at Valley Montessori School, everyone participated in helping prepare meals for Kids Against Hunger. I was apart of this collaborative effort to help families in need.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
As an upcoming freshman, I haven't experienced these issues as a high school student, but as someone with two older siblings, I have seen a bit into the high school life, and I have noticed the following issues:
1. Unsportsmanlike Behavior - At basketball games, student sections tend to get out of hand and partake in yelling at the refs, screaming insults at players, and using vulgar language with young children in a close proximity. At some schools, I've seen gym etiquette plastered on the walls outside the gym, and I think it would be beneficial to have these rules implemented in more high schools. I think the Commission could contact schools to talk about a much needed change in behavior. 2. Campus Safety - With the terror of gun violence and school shootings becoming more and more common, safety for students is extremely important. Although I don't think anyone has figured out how to stop this on-the-rise issue, I think the Youth Commission could help communicate with other districts to see what works for different places, and help improve areas that lack in certain aspects. 3. Educational Opportunities - Coming from a very small private school, I have learned that hands-on learning is very important for students of all ages. I think many high school classes lack personal connection between students and teachers. I think having more class activities, such as field trips, are good ways to keep students engaged in learning and allow the kids to get more out of each class. With the library's familiarity with hosting events, I think the Youth Commission could help schools plan which events would be educational as well as fun.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
Marketing is very important when it comes to involving people in activities and programs. Using social media platforms and other existing mechanisms, such as Peach Jar, help inform not only the kids but the parents as well about upcoming events all year round. I also think that many teens don't stay interested in topics for very long, so something that is always adapting to current interests and trends would help tailor to the younger audience.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission If you have participated in a Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission committee or activities, please describe your involvement:
I've participated in the Summer Reader Program (I'm not sure if this is a Commission activity). Otherwise, I am not aware of taking part in the committee.Ally M Grant ATTACHMENT 3

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What experience, if any, have you had with other youth activities in Livermore? Since I was four years old, I have played soccer for the Livermore Fusion Soccer Club, and currently play competitively U16 on the 2007 Girls Maroon Team at the NPL level. I dedicate 6-13 hours weekly to soccer. I started playing tennis when I was seven years old at the Livermore Valley Tennis Club through Tompkins Tennis, and I am currently part of the Ranked Juniors Program (top 100 players in Northern California). I dedicate 10-21 hours a week to tennis.

20 Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.
Currently, I am a returning executive director of the 24-Hour Race, the largest student-run global movement in which we raised funds and raised awareness about modern slavery. As it is the second year in a row that I take up this position, I look forward to fundraising and reaching higher than the previous statistics of 25,000 dollars and over 250 participants collected. I perform my job successfully due to my four years of professional public speaking and my top ten awards in one of the most prestigious public speaking competitions, as well as the mock trial competitions, I believe I will have a fair chance. In the future, I hope to become a criminal justice attorney and I have already started my path. This was done by directly studying and developing knowledge under deputy district attorneys in the Alameda County District attorney’s office. Additionally, I have gained an employment opportunity at the Law Officers of Jennifer Thaete as a Law Clerk for the past three years where I fulfill my desire to have a meaningful career with societal impact. Ultimately, I work with various lawyers to ensure they can do their duties as efficiently and effectively as possible therefore empowering my detailed-oriented and dedicated skills to the best of their abilities. I am also doing an internship for the second year in a row with the Livermore City Council where alongside the staff I have started a pro-housing advocacy group. Throughout Livermore, I will push for more affordable housing for every single person no matter their race, gender, background, or income status. I have also interned with the Quest Science Center for three years in a row where I design monthly public science events in our downtown park that are centralized around a specific theme to pipe the interests of science in children, adults, and teenagers. On the side, I am volunteering with the United Nations for two years in a row where I maintain duties of fundraising and researching potential donors of computer hardware and software. I also started a project that aimed to raise funds to offer scholarships for women in Kenya to pursue their education in the field of leadership and entrepreneurship.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
When I was first growing up, I had a one-minded preceptive of our education system, thinking that it was just something non-valuable or too boxed to pipe my interests. Now as I am a little bit older, I want to disprove that theory so much, specifically, the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission would allow depth to our curriculum in our area, to show all students that knowledge is not just a formula-based subject. It has so many details and little nuances that slowly add up together to funnel an idea or result that is just so creative and unique. I believe my old ways of thinking were just due to how the materials were being taught to be, but now the Youth Advisory Board could apply lessons to others in an exiting- imaginative way and then can convert those lessons into useful knowledge for their later life such as implementing activities or programs exploring the topic. For example, using meetings and surveys, the board can hear constructive criticism regarding lessons and topics taught by the young adult generation due to their immense experience in the system. With this feedback, it is quite plausible to host programs and implement the young adult generation to give back to smaller children by supplying hands-on sources for teachings. Not only does this strengthen the connection between our political system and our community, but it also furthers the need for more quality educational learning. As well, I have always admired an opportunity to utilize my initiative ad problem-solving skills to significantly improve productivity and help spread real educational value to the company and community. I have been interested in working as part of a passionate team in a demanding environment as I thrive with challenges and I am always adept at hard-working opportunities.

21 Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
To reach out and spread the boundaries of the community, one must understand the rapid change in diversity and citizens of Livermore. With new flourishes of moving families, the city of Livermore is welcoming its doors to those of different ethnic backgrounds. Noticeably found in the area, many programs lack the availability to communicate with others that do not have English as their native of first- language known. Due to this fixed communication, not all families can bring their participate in wonderfully-created activities. However, to solve this damaging problem, using forms of more inclusive language can allow numerous involvements from Livermore residents. Specifically, advertising in one’s native language such as Spanish to accolade the rising population of Spanish-speaking people in the bay area or focusing on images that have a universal meaning can enhance the number of audience members the board has for different programs. These visual aids can give a clear meaning to why a citizen should join the program without overloading one with an uncomfortable and unfamiliar language. Additionally, using audio advertising such as interviews can be another beneficial form of advertising as it broadens the community to be more inclusive to disabled civilians.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission If you have participated in a Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission committee or activities, please describe your involvement:
Unfortunately, I have not been able to participate in a Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission activity due to moving to Livermore during the height of the COVID pandemic which eradicated opportunities that I could take advantage of.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What experience, if any, have you had with other youth activities in Livermore? Serving to make a beneficial impact on the youth community, I reach out and aid as many children as I can. In my experience, this has been possible by involving myself in the activities located in the surrounding area such as being the president of my school’s CSF, Model UN club, National Honor Society, Mock Trial, Me to We, and vice-president of the DECA organization located at my high school as well. I have been able to maintain these leadership roles for three years now. The CSF club or California Scholarship Federation and National Honor Society (NHS) specifically honors academic excellence while targeting students to put their passion into community-based projects that cultivate a safe-beneficial environment for all citizens. A distinction between the two distinct organizations is that the National Honor Society requires all students to undergo a rigorous application process in order to earn one’s membership.
Meanwhile, the Model UN club is one where students will come in with months of research and pretend to be a delegate of each country while discussing a solution to real-world problems. Likewise, Mock Trial is organized for the purpose of helping students form an understanding of the link between our Constitution, our courts, and our legal system by setting up an imitation of a court trial. This activity allows for students to participate and travel to the Alameda Mock Trial County competition where they present a year of hard work in front of presiding judges and opposing teams. While Me to We dedicated themselves to serving the community, empowering individuals to adopt a WE mindset, and encouraging individuals to make a positive impact on the environment. Lastly, DECA which stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America is an association of marketing students that encourages the development of business and leadership skills through academic conferences and competitions. In order to reach out to the broadest of communities, I have pursued my volunteering work from 2021 to the present as a YAV or a Young Adult Volunteer which provides an important experience for young people to engage with their communities and the issues they care about while enhancing their own personal development through assisting in community-run activities at the Livermore Community Center. In a different aspect, I have earned another position as the Director of Writing at GirlsWhoSTEAM SKTN and continued the role from 2019 to the present. This is a 501(c)3 student-run nonprofit organization investing in underprivileged and marginalized girls by providing them with the community, connections, and coaching that they need in order to drive systematic change. Specifically, I invest time in changing the lives of the girls involved in our programs by enhancing and co-authoring the writing of each published article that stems from the organization.

26 Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.
I have previously volunteered for park clean ups (Living Arroyos) as well as participating in community events at my school. I am also a club leader for the Model United Nations club at my school. Recently I have had trouble participating due to the restrictions placed following Executive Order N-12-21 to handle the COVID crisis.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
Currently I find it incredibly important to increase community involvement from students in safe ways during the currently still ongoing COVID pandemic. Many people still do not feel safe due to the variants and as such participation in community events is suffering. By increasing the amount of more COVID friendly events as well as beginning to push harder for participation as we exit the COVID crisis the LAYAC can create an inclusive community for the students and youth of Livermore.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
I believe that most young people, such as myself, are very interested in modern issues and discussions.
More activities involving LGBTQ and Mental Health discussion would help promote an inclusive community as well as attract a portion of the youth population that often feels left out of community forums. By incorporating events and discussions about these issues and creating an inclusive environment for these groups of people we can include more of the youth into the community as a whole as well as make people more invested in already existing community events.
Outside of school I have participated in Living Arroyos park cleanups and summer LARPD camps and activities such as the Chess Camp. I have also participated in out of school sports such as fencing while it was hosted at the LARPD rec. center. I have also participated in school events such as school dances and have helped fundraise for the Model United Nations club as its treasurer during homecoming. As COVID is finally slowing down I hope to participate in more events in the community in the future as well as helping to plan in anyway I can.

30 Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.
I have helped out in school carnivals and have also been a YAV since 6th grade. However, I was only able to volunteer the summer after 6th grade and not the summers after my 7th and 8th grade year due to Covid, meaning I volunteered for a total of 2 years. I have attended and participated in the meeting and activities of the UNICEF and Red Cross Club at Granada, and I am applying to become an officer this year for UNICEF. This summer I volunteered at the Rincon Library for a program called the Reading Bridge which was where I helped kids who were struggling with reading.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
Some issues that greatly interest me are the homeless and those who are addicted to drugs. I am aware that the Livermore Council has made great progress towards funding homeless shelters as well as putting $2.4 million toward drug addiction treatment facilities for homeless, low-income people, however I think we should continuously donate to the shelters and addiction facilities, and one way to do that is to create fundraisers such as an auction or carnival.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
I would promote said activities and programs and encourage them to participate. I could promote this by creating posters and putting them in popular areas, such as coffee shops or the library, or doing school- directed activities that will immerse my peers the discussions being held in the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission without actually having to be present during the meetings. I would also encourage them to go to some of the meeting here and there or watch the video recordings is that is more convenient for them.

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What experience, if any, have you had with other youth activities in Livermore? 34 Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.
I have been volunteering in the community for 6 years now (since 6th grade), mostly at the Livermore Public Library as a young adult volunteer, though I have also helped with multiple elementary school festivals and volunteered with various other organizations briefly as a part of the National Honor Society club at Granada High School.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
I feel the youth could be more involved in the community, and I know many who are looking for ways to be more involved in community activities and create a positive difference in Livermore. One way that I think the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission could address this and strengthen the positive influence of the youth in this community is to reach out to schools for collaborations with projects. There are multiple clubs in schools that already participate in fundraisers and coordinate events to benefit the community such as the Red Cross Club, UNICEF, and the National Honor Society just to name a few at Granada. By reaching out to them and other clubs in schools around Livermore we would be able to enlist a greater demographic of students dedicated to improving and serving the community. This would strengthen the support for our programs and bring the community closer while benefiting the youth of Livermore and allowing them to showcase their leadership and community service skills and be more active and influential participants in movements to make our community a better place.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
I would have the programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission be endorsed by the Livermore Public Library branches, as well as reach out to schools around Livermore, as the Livermore Public Library is already partnered with multiple schools around the city, and having the schools endorse events and programs to students either through announcements or mentions on the website would draw attention and interaction from the community to the events.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission If you have participated in a Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission committee or activities, please describe your involvement:

I have been an active volunteer in the Livermore Public Library for multiple years, and I have also attended multiple Science on Saturdays and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Science Fair. I also participated in multiple programs of the Livermore Public Library, ranging from robotics classes to website creating workshops to fun crafts and have also regularly participated in the Livermore Public Library Summer Reading Program. I have participated in the Mendenhall Middle School Spelling Bee, as well as the District and Alameda County Spelling Bee. I have also participated in the National History Day Competition at Mendenhall, continuing on to the District, Country, and State levels.

42 Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.
I love serving my community and pitching ideas for ways to improve our communities. I hope to organize events that will connect with people and leave them with a positive experience living in our city. I grew up in Livermore and during middle and the beginning of High School I moved around the area. I lived in San Ramon and Dublin which gave me the opportunity to enjoy community events like Spatter, The Winds and Arts festival, as well as open mic nights. While I was living in San Ramon I was a member of the California Junior Scholarship Federation(2 years), Interact Club(1 year), and Cal high Diversity Club(1 year). While I was living in Dublin I was part of the Orchestra Club(1) committee and Language club(2). As a result I was able to serve my community in a more organized fashion. Community events have been very important in my life because they give me an opportunity to have unique experiences with my friends locally that otherwise I would not have the chance to. Another meaningful experience in my serving journey was being involved in my local church. My dad is very active in church related volunteering, so inevitably I became very active in it as well. My favorite events were the annual festivals in which I took care of the cotton machine in the candy stand. I felt a accomplished and satiated in knowing that I was contributing in a small way to my community.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
My greatest interest in our community is in the Arts division. I believe one of the aspects that distinguishes Livermore is our accomplishments in music, visual arts, film, dance, poetry, and literature. As an Arts enthusiast myself I have displayed my art in Splatter and even won an award in the Sandy Hook Art Competition. As a young artist these type of events are very important to me because they let show my ideas and interests to others. I would like to bring opportunities like these to Livermore's young artists and talented musicians through competitions, gallery walks, or performing events. I hope this not only gives them confidence, but also incentive to continue improving their craft.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
I would arrange chalk art competitions of all ages, workshops, and perhaps even virtual events. Virtual gallery walks could be an easy and fast way for students to see the work of their peers. I would also try to involve young people through social media, since that is a huge platform that connects people of all ages.
For example, I heard about this organization through Instagram.

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
I enjoy using the biking/walking trails that are all over Livermore that many people use throughout the year. The path is well maintained and safe but I’ve noticed in some areas there’s a lot of trash along the sides and in the creek. And, especially in this weather, much of the vegetation is dead. I think the Youth Advisory Commission could bring more awareness to these topics and help with prevention and conservation.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
I would involve other in the work by help planning events that offer an incentive. Such as volunteer hours or a chance to make new friends and help their community.

53 Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.
My participation in community activities at Livermore has predominantly been volunteering to help our community and internationally! I am currently the co-president of the Interact club at Granada High School that is in partnership with the Livermore Rotary to help put on events and help the community. Through this club we have helped provide meals for third world countries. I have also been heavily involved with HCCC Livermore Temple since I was seven where I have helped plan events, teach Sanskrit, and assist others when needed. Through HCCC an event I volunteered in was a food drive at Junction where I helped bag and hangout meals to help many low income families. Throughout my childhood I have also participated in the Livermore Summer Reading program where I was able to meet some of the leaders of our town! Being involved with our town has been something very important to me since I was little and especially within the past nine years.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
The issues I have great interest in are our environment and the discrimiation prevalent. I would see the environmental issues addressed by the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission by creating more sustainable options in our day to day life. This may include switching from plastic to paper bags at stores, more recycling and trash cans to prevent littering, conserving water, and more ideas to care for the future of our planet. Another topic I would like to focus on is different discriminations that may be present in our town. This issue can be addressed and helped by bringing more attention to the topic and talking in schools about it to bring more attention to the topic.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
In order to involve more youth people to the various programs by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission, I would target publicizing within the schools and more through social media. Within schools, there are opportunities to talk about the events in announcements, school broadcasts, emailing parents and posting flyers to allow more people to know about the programs. The use of social media and other media such as emails is very helpful to spread the word to a larger group of people.
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission If you have participated in a Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission committee or activities, please describe your involvement:
I have not participated in a Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission activities, but I would love to become more involved this year!
Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What experience, if any, have you had with other youth activities in Livermore? The experience I have had with other youth activities in Livermore is volunteering with HCCC Livermore Temple to distribute food to lower income households in Junction. Through HCCC I was also a part of the Hindu Youth Cultural Center in which I taught younger kids to learn Sanskrit as well as plan and assist in different events for the youth! This past year I also volunteered at Rotary's Chili Cookoff where I worked the kids booth and helped little kids with painting and drawing. I was also a part of the Summer Reading Program as a kid and was able to meet some of our town's leaders! Nithya Madineni
