The Advisory Body connects citizens and the town's elected representatives. Allowing citizens’ thoughts to be heard and provides the opportunity for people to represent their community. The opportunity gives youths an idea on what work is done to keep the town organized and running.

Question applies to multiple boards
Review the City Council's 5-Year Strategic Plan (You may review them here:
https://www.livermoreca.gov/government/city-council/five-year-strategic-plan ) Briefly describe how you anticipate this Advisory Body will assist the City Council in implementing the plan. (If you are applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I anticipate the Advisory Body to host or support events related to the five pillars of the five-year strategic plan. The youth advisory may be used to spread the word about events to gather up their peers to make an impact in the plan.

What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
The environment section of the plan interests me the most. I think it is important that people take care of the earth to allow future generations to enjoy the earth like we do. I know the recycling center promotes the slogan "reduce, reuse, and recycle." I know there are trash cans out in the city, but to aid the slogan, there can be bins with two dividers one for trash and recyclables to decrease the amount of waste being sent to landfills. Cleanups as well can be hosted to make our town a cleaner place. Although this does not interest me as much, to help with the thriving economy section, a youth business fair can be hosted.

Children can submit applications to sell items. The commission can approve the ideas and reject duplicate ideas. These items can later be sold to the public in the setting of a farmers market teaching youths about business. This could give children inspiration to start business of their own or inspire others to explore new hobbies expanding the town's human resources. Furthermore, the commission could create a social media page and highlight one of the town's businesses every two weeks essentially giving them a free ad.

This would attract more people to the business and hopefully gives businesses the opportunity to expand providing more jobs to the community. More strong businesses will create more funds to support essential practices such as school and our police department through taxes.

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What experience, if any, have you had with other youth activities in Livermore? I am participating in the Livermore Library's YAV program which focuses on the library's annual summer reading program for people of all ages. The program provides volunteer opportunities such as assisting youths to develop comprehension and reading skills. Through Interact, I have worked with Rotary and helped host a children Christmas Party.

I have not participated in a Livermore Area Advisory Commission committee or activity.

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
Personally, I believe the libraries in Livermore connect people of all ages in our community. Although someone may not enjoy reading, there are other fun activities and it has a peaceful, productive work environment. I think at some point everyone has visited the library at least once making it the perfect place to hang flyers or sit outside the library to advocate what the commission is and activities youths can participate in hosted by the commission.

My interpretation of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission is to bring the community of Livermore together including the youth aspects of it and the adult. By renovation and recreational activities that every age can appreciate, we can help create a more engaged youth in Livermore and its culture.

I anticipate this body to assist the City Council with their plans for page 26-27 of the 5-Year Strategic Plan in making Livermore a comforting and inclusive space for the youth of Livermore. By creating inviting places where people of any age can comfortably express themselves and their personalities the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission will greatly help the City Council with their plans.

What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
Issues which I believe to be the greatest interests to me include the problem of inclusion. In Livermore I do not see enough engagement with the youth of our city. I also do not see enough representation of younger citizens of Livermore. I believe the Livermore Are Youth Advisory Commission would be of great help with this problem as ideas coming from the youth themselves will definitely be able to get more people engaged and active in the community.

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What experience, if any, have you had with other youth activities in Livermore? Experiences I have had with other youth activities in Livermore include my local First Robotics Team which I devoted 3-4 hours each week in our competition season. I also tried to get involved in volunteering and community service. To do this I joined VT Seva which is a non-profit organization which participates in numerous activities like community cleanup. I helped by doing 3 hours of community service for the past 2-3 years. Also in my school I joined the National STEM Honors Society which started this year and I with 3 others created a presentation to solve the problem of oil spills.

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission If you have participated in a Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission committee or activities, please describe your involvement:

I have not, but I hope to in the near future.

The purpose of the advisory body is to connect younger residents of Livermore with city leaders to discuss ideas, concerns, and possible areas of improvement to the community.

Review the City Council's 5-Year Strategic Plan (You may review them here:

The Livermore Youth Advisory Body strives to engage the youth, which is roughly a quarter of the total population of Livermore, to help build a city that is safe, clean, inclusive, and affordable.

What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
I believe that addressing mental health issues should be a higher priority to the City of Livermore. As a high school student, I experience many of my peers struggling with a school/friend/family balance daily. I believe this committee could help spread the word and create campaigns of ways to practice self care and protect your mental health by finding your community. I would also like to focus on the issue of homelessness in Livermore, which can tie into mental health, by organizing fundraising events and creating campaigns to encourage others to help those in need.

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What experience, if any, have you had with other youth activities in Livermore? While at Emma C. Smith, I was involved in Girl Scouts, the Library Summer Reading Program, Fusion soccer, Livermore gymnastics, Tompkin's Tennis, Livermore School of Dance, Fireballs Swim Team, LARPD Nature camp, and Science Odyssey. While at Mendenhall, I continued participating in the Library Summer Reading Program, Tompkin's Tennis, and the Science Odyssey. I also started running Cross Country. Currently at Granada, I am on the Cross Country team, long distance Track and Field team, and am involved in school affiliated clubs including California Scholarship Federation, and was Treasurer on the Debate Club. This summer I am continuing to train for the upcoming Cross Country season and am volunteering at Tri-Valley Haven food pantry.

My interpretation of the purpose of the advisory body is to highlight issues relevant to the youth of Livermore, to make important information accessible to the youth of Livermore, and to promote inclusion and diversity through activities.

I reviewed the City council's 5 year plans. In my opinion there is immediate opportunity to further the environmental stewardship community pillar by creating awareness on the solid waste/recycling program in households by enlisting youth support. We could also assist with Inclcusive and inviting spaces community pillar by creating and promoting art by the diverse youth of Livermore, and building awareness of Livermore's history. The youth commission could partner with the library on both these pillars to create youth focused programming on these community pillars to promote environmental action and diversity and inclusion initiatives.

What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
Livermore is a diverse community, so promoting inclusivity and embracing cultural diversity should be a priority. The commission can organize events and initiatives that celebrate different cultures, nurture understanding, and promote conversation among young people from various backgrounds. Avenues for participation with other organizations for diversity and inclusion include partnering with the Livermore Public Library, Downtown Livermore Business Association, and the Farmer's Market to co-host or sponsor diversity and inclusion events. I am also interested in environmental issues and how the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission can impact the environmental awareness in the local community. The commision could partner with LARPD for youth volunteer opportunities or lead awareness campaigns.

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What experience, if any, have you had with other youth activities in Livermore? I am a member of a Scout's troop in Livermore, and on the Livermore Aqua Cowboys swim team. I have also in the past been associated with SPARC theater and the Livermore School of Dance to learn performing arts.Ojasvi Sharma

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission How would you involve other young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
There are several ways to involve young people in the work, activities, and programs of the Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commision. In my mind, providing opportunities for young people to volunteer for specific programs or events can be an effective way to engage them. The commission can organize volunteer drives, offer meaningful roles and responsibilities through volunteer work, and recognize the achievements of youth volunteers through certificates or awards.

Briefly describe your interpretation of the purpose of this Advisory Body. To learn more you may visit the website found here:https://www.livermoreca.gov/departments/city- clerk/advisory-bodies, then click the link on the left hand side and chose the Advisory Body you are interested in (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
The Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission allows Livermore's youth to get involved with the community. It is a chance for them to voice their concerns or ideas about the youth of Livermore to people who can help make a difference, such as City Council or the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District.

This advisory body can assist the City Council in implementing this plan by raising concerns about problems regarding youth that are found within Livermore. It can help the city meet specific goals by emphasizing to the youth how to be prepared for common emergencies, such as wildfires and earthquakes, and also encouraging more public transport to get to schools for people who live in areas that do not have much access to public transportation. The advisory body can raise awareness about problems in Livermore as well as the city's goals by talking to peers and others who are interested.

What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
I am interested in the issues regarding creating a community that thrives as well as making public places more inclusive. An issue that I think is important is the one of transportation to and from school. In my neighborhood along with others there are no buses or ways to get to school, evident in the amount of parents asking to carpool on sites like Nextdoor and Patch. It is hard for people who have two parents working or conflicting school timings to get to school sometimes. A way that this could be addressed is by surveying different neighborhoods about the amount of school-aged kids in the neighborhood and about their transportation situations. With this data, plans could be made to potentially solve this problem. I also am interested in preserving and encouraging visitors to public places like parks, libraries, and events in Livermore. Increased community engagement can be achieved by advertising the events held more often, and adding additional diverse cultural events to the ones already offered at places like the library.

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What experience, if any, have you had with other youth activities in Livermore? I have volunteered for the Livermore Public Library and the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District multiple times over the past year. I volunteer as a Young Adult Volunteer for the library, assisting in storytimes and youth events. I have volunteered for events such as the egg hunt and donuts with Santa at the Livermore Area Recreation and Park District and Robert Livermore Community Center.

The way I understand the purpose of this Advisory Body is that it gives a voice to youth in our community to speak about how to better improve Livermore and support ideas such as patience and tolerance.

I believe that the LAYAC will help assist the City Council in implementing their 5-Year Strategic Plan through voicing support for the goals that have a positive impact on Livermore's community, especially those regarding climate change prevention and improving inclusivity. Also, the members of the LAYAC could offer constructive criticism of plans they believe could potentially be detrimental to the community.

Because this committee would have such diverse perspectives, they could see problems from various angles, allowing any problems to be addressed in a way that is truly what is best for the community.

What issues are of greatest interest to you and how would you see them addressed by Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission?
The issue that interests me the most is climate change, something that affects everyone on every part of the earth. I have taken Biotech and other science courses and have an interest in biology-related topics.

To address this problem, the LAYAC could reach out to local businesses to offer solutions to any harmful practices. Also, they could use social media and other platforms to promote more eco-friendly practices to a wide audience. Coordination with the Livermore parks to help improve the conditions of our environment is another option.

Question applies to Livermore Area Youth Advisory Commission What experience, if any, have you had with other youth activities in Livermore? I was a Young Adult Volunteer at the Livermore Public Library (Civic Center) for several years, and last year I was named the Young Adult Volunteer of the Year, a prestigious award given to individuals who show commitment to the library's purpose. This past fall, I was hired as a library page, and last year I co- organized the entire library youth volunteer summer program. This year, I have again been asked to lead the summer program volunteers, but this time I will be in a paid capacity. I also have a first degree black belt in karate and have helped with summer art camps at the Bothwell. Additionally, I am involved in the Granada High School Mental Health Awareness club and will be an officer next year, and I am a member of the National Honor Society at GHS.
