While not a member, I have sponsored and participated in activities of Livermore Rotary, 4H, Boy Scouts, Fertile Groundworks, and other local non profits.

HPC has an advisory role in helping City Council to protect and preserve local heritage. It can also serve as a resource for owners of historic properties and may help in identifying historic properties to the public through plaques and other interpretive material. Specific tasks may include reviewing and advising on planned modifications to historic sites and buildings. It can also act proactively to identify and suggest mitigations for historic elements at risk.

Review the City Council's 5-Year Strategic Plan (You may review them here:
https://www.livermoreca.gov/government/city-council/five-year-strategic-plan ) Briefly describe how you anticipate this Advisory Body will assist the City Council in implementing the plan. (If you are applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
The 5 year Strategic Plan offers a Vision, Mission, Values and a set of Pillars that incorporate those goals.

HPC's contributions can be described in relation to each of them, but it may be the most clear to address the plan from the perspective of the 5 pillars. -- (1) Safe Community That Thrives. Obviously HPC is a strong partner in helping to shape appropriate development where historic resources or the recognition of historic significance can be part of development planning. Residents and developers should be able to expect fair and consistent treatment based on guidelines for historic preservation when bringing projects that include historic significance. Effective historic preservation adds value to business districts and neighborhoods alike, and residents expect that value to be preserved through fair evaluation of a project's impact to the area's historic character. -- (2) Economy that Prospers. This pillar has many aspects touched by HPC, let's take one in particular. Historic tourism is an excellent way to bring visitors to Livermore. Attendance at Livermore's historic sites and events often include out of town visitors who find our area interesting enough to visit, and then choose to spend their time and money here on meals, shopping, and entertainment. Downtown events often advertise their presence in "Historic Downtown Livermore" because being historic is an added draw for attendance. While locals tend to consider the cultural benefits of maintaining our local heritage, it has distinct economic benefits as well. -- (3) Environmental Stewardship. At its core, historic preservation is environmentally friendly. Tearing down a building to put up a new one comes at a tremendous cost in waste, energy, and resources. (MIT estimates that a typical home construction is 50 - 90 tons of CO2 equivalent). At the same time, it is important to recognize that older structures are often not very efficient, and we should make sure we work to allow environmental upgrades while preserving historic character. -- (4) Inclusive and Inviting Places and Spaces. Within the City's 5 year strategic plan, this pillar includes goal subheadings of Sense of Place and Historic Preservation, two topics which nearly define the role of the HPC. To address this succinctly, we can say that the City uses Historic Preservation as one of its tools to create a Sense of Place. Other goals in this pillar also align tightly with the mission of the HPC. HPC worked for over a decade to preserve the local heritage of our historic Southern Pacific Depot for use in modern Regional Transportation, which happens to be another of the specific subheadings in this pillar. And to address the title of this pillar directly, historic preservation is often about inviting the community to explore and understand our local historic culture. The Livermore area has had a range of diversity through its history and it is important to reflect that so today's community appreciates the value of our diverse history. -- (5) A City That Works. As with the previous pillar, the HPC's role is specifically called out here, in this case under the subheading of Advisory Body Engagement. But perhaps one of the larger roles for HPC fits more under the subheading of Customer Service and Community Engagement. HPC is where residents come to have their projects discussed if there are historic preservation implications and they expect high quality customer service in that interaction. Any engagement with bureaucracy can be intimidating and bothersome, so HPC has a responsibility to treat residents respectfully and thoughtfully through the process. Often HPC is able to bring praise and insight to a resident's proposed project, and if there are recommendations for modification they need to be carefully described and supported through a fair reading of Livermore's historic guidelines. Administratively, HPC interacts not only with City staff but may also work with LARPD or other civic and community organizations. While it is only an advisory body, it represents the City and must conduct all of these interactions in a way that supports the smooth and effective operation of the City. Each of these areas could have a lengthy, detailed discussion, I am just picking up a few highlights for this conversation. If there are other areas of concern or curiosity, I can address them specifically.

23 Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
HPC's outcomes may cover the gamut, depending on the applications that come in. But HPC should also continue to recognize and promote the preservation efforts of residents and local companies. It should also continue to work with staff to create appropriate interpretive material for the ongoing downtown development area. And it should monitor historic sites at risk, and insure that staff is alert to potential detriments to local historic sites. HPC may be a catalyst for promoting more of the City's history online, in public events, and in its policies. Now that the City has an approved Historic Context Statement and Historic Resource Inventory, there are more assets for creating public awareness.

The Board of Trustees provides governance and fiscal oversight for the Mosquito Abatement District, and is accountable for the employment of the District manager, as well as budget setting and funding allocations for the District's programs and services. Though not explicitly state, Trustees appointed at a city level would seemingly be expected to represent community-level interests in the District's planning, as well as serve as a conduit between the District, stakeholders directly impacted by District programs and services, and community residents.

As a public agency leader and having worked for County agencies for most of my career, I appreciate the bidirectional influence and synergy between public agencies and the community residents they serve. I have historically had accountability for directing my county organizations' engagement with community stakeholder groups, as well as the work associated with specified governance subcommittees and advisory groups appointed by elected leaders in the areas that I have worked. I have experience engaging with community stakeholders, partner organizations and elected leaders toward locally or regionally relevant issues. * My professional background in public affairs and multicultural marketing and communications positions me to engage District leadership in meaningful and sustainable ways to engage and inform our region's diverse community.

I have a background in public health and hold an Master's in Public Health from Yale School of Medicine. I am specifically interested in infectious disease transmitted through insect vectors. I have formerly studied the population genetics of insect vectors with a view to eradication. Mosquito borne diseases have been a plague for at least a century and due to climate change in California and globalization, there is an uptick mosquitoes borne disease with worsening pathology. I believe in education, outreach and prevention as a way of managing risk and would love to be part of the the advisory board for this purpose. Regarding the Commission for the Arts, I have long been a patron of Livermore Arts, even when I was not a resident of the area. As a dancer, and writer, I am enthralled by the opportunities this town has to advance artistic endeavors. My children participate in local theater and music classes and I would like to help to continue and further promote access to the arts to the community.

I believe that the Arts make the world a better place and I would love to serve on the committee that guides the City Council in cultural enrichment and the expansion of art in all forms.

Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.

Community Service has always been important to me. When I lived in Modesto, I was an active member of the Rotary Club there. Here in Livermore, I have been a member of the National Charity League for the past 6 years, 3 of which I served on the Board, and 1 of which I served as the President. With that organization, I have volunteered with the following local organizations: the Sunflower Hill garden, Open Heart Kitchen, Tri-Valley Haven, Culinary Angels, SPARC, the Livermore Marathon, and many other charities and philanthropies. I also participated in the most recent Livermore PIT count.

As stated on the website, the purpose of the Arts Commission is to "Promote Livermore as a vibrant and stimulating environment for artists and audiences, young and old, to experience the performing, visual, and literary arts." I interpret that statement as meaning that our goals are to: 1) Brainstorm/ Listen to citizen's ideas to expand art in the community, appealing to all ages and demographics, 2) Find ways to reach the artist community to maximize participation in arts initiatives and 3) Communicate to the public the great work that is being done in order to establish Livermore as an arts destination.

There are two main components of the City Council's 5-Year Strategic Plan that the Arts Commission feeds into: "Economy that Prospers" and "Inclusive and Inviting Spaces and Places". "Economy that Prospers" :Public art, done well, will enhance the appeal of a destination and therefore will increase tourism, which in turn will bolster the economy by increasing business at restaurants, hotels, retail stores, and local theaters. "Inclusive & Inviting Spaces & Places": Celebrating the diverse nature of our population through public art will increase the attractiveness of Livermore, but in addition it will help people of all backgrounds to feel welcome if they are represented through our visual and performing arts and Cultural Celebrations.

I do not have any commitments that would prevent me from dedicating myself fully to the meetings and to the committees, programs and tours that are required of the Arts Commission. I work at the Bankhead Theater, but it is part-time, and I have a lot of flexibility in my schedule. My children are old enough to drive themselves wherever they need to be.

Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I hope that we will continue the good work of the past Arts Commissions. I love driving around town and seeing our public art: the murals, the bus stops, the utility boxes, the fountains, Livermorium Plaza, the statues, the temporary art installations (like the yarn decorations on the trees), the music, the outdoor fairs, etc., etc., etc. I feel that Livermore is already a great city for the Arts and I am very hopeful that I can play a part in future projects.

Describe your expectations and anticipated contributions as a member of the Commission for the Arts.

I expect to be fully present and to contribute to meetings and committees. I expect to work with the City Council in order to assist them with achieving their goals that were laid out in the 5-Year Strategic Plan. I anticipate working with the council, the other members of the commission, and with artists in order to make informed decisions regarding public art. I have good interpersonal skills and look forward to using them to collaborate with all of these groups.

80 Question applies to Commission for the Arts
Describe your experience in the area of arts or other background (educational, business, or professional) that might be useful to you as a member of the Commission for the Arts.

Although I am not an artist myself, I love the arts and look forward to helping prioritize the Commission for the Arts' projects. What I excel at is more analytical in nature - I have my MBA and much of my career was spent in the business environment. I am very good at streamlining and efficiency. Also I am extremely comfortable with computers and computer software. Finally, I can contribute in that I do have personal connections within the administration of the Bankhead Theater and the Bothwell.

Question applies to Commission for the Arts
What challenges do you see facing art (in terms of public access to, public support, or social value)?
I would imagine that the biggest challenge facing art is how to pay for it. I am sure there are members of the population who feel that spending money on art is wasteful when there are mouths to feed and crime on the streets. I feel incredibly fortunate that I live in Livermore and that our town does fund public art and spaces, and that we do see the value in public expression and beauty.

Question applies to Commission for the Arts
Do you foresee any conflict of interest in serving on the Commission? If so, explain below.

I do not foresee any conflict of interest in serving on the Arts Commission.

Question applies to Commission for the Arts
Selecting an artist is the most important part of the public art process. What procedure is likely to produce the best result?
Artwork is very personal and people's opinions of what makes 'good' art varies widely. For that reason, I believe that collaboration is key when it comes to public art displays. It would be near impossible to please everyone when choosing public art, and honestly, a piece of art that did please everyone would probably be rather boring. However, it is important to get multiple points of view so that nothing is chosen that would be considered offensive. A variety of public art is a good strategy to appease different tastes. I think the mural project is an excellent example of this. The murals are vastly different from each other and they reflect the diverse nature of our population - and due to this I would imagine that almost everyone values the murals and the incredible amount of work that must have gone into creating them.

Briefly explain your interest in serving on the Advisory Body(s) you have selected. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I am applying for membership to the Livermore Commission for the Arts. I support all sectors of public art and would like to encourage diverse, original artistic expressions, collaborations between disciplines (both within the arts and other fields), events that stimulate public curiosity, mental wellness, public education, that give expression to historic, new and broad selections of local art, that embrace the various Livermore outdoor and indoor spaces with arts performances and exhibitions. I am specifically interested in the visual arts and giving art a public place in the community, in raising the standard and diversity of local public art, making public art a part of functional public structures such as playgrounds, walkways, gardens, picnic areas and green areas, engaging the public in public art - i.e. encouraging interactive elements as part of public art displays, and engaging the public in the making of the public art itself through public recreational events. I am also very interested in giving youth, as well as under-served adult sectors of the community, opportunities for creative self-expression in the form of unique public art- making. By creating valuable and engaging public art, the art-makers recognize the value of their individual ideas and gain a sense of place in their local community. I feel that this is especially important for those whose strength is art because it demonstrates the value and necessity of art in the community, the value of art-making as a career, and, in addition, educates the art student in the field of public art.

Thirdly, I feel that art-making stimulates creativity and problem-solving in general which extends to many other fields of study. I am interested, too, in the aspect of play. Creating original art is a process of experimentation and daring that is akin to a child creating a world of imagination. Creative playfulness seems an act of meditation, and a retreat from the stress of world problems, making it a possible tool in enhancing mental wellness for both the artists and the viewing public. As a member of the Livermore Commission for the Arts, these would be the major aspects I would like to develop.

Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.

Since 2020 I have been involved in public art projects throughout the Tri-Valley including publicly- accessible murals, temporary/portable public art, and collaborative outdoor projects . My art projects engage diverse groups of youth, giving free art workshops, supportive, non-critical creative environments, encouragement of individual expression, and unique exhibition opportunities. These youth-centered projects grew out of my teaching practice in which I found that a gentle, encouraging atmosphere where all art-marks (intentional, unintentional, accidental) are valuable. With positive exploration of this, I find students' artwork to become highly original, their patience with skill-acquisition to increase, and skills, themselves, to greatly improve. Students gain strong problem-solving abilities by creatively finding the potential in every visual expression. Students show acceptance of themselves and each other, especially in collaborative projects. My students experience peace, enjoyment and satisfaction in the classes which, I strongly feel, helps increase their mental wellness and this, in turn, can potentially overlap into other spheres of their lives. My public artwork ideas gravitate towards collaborations that communicate between disciplines. I have created art with musicians, writers, historians, scientists, agriculturalists, environmentalists, lower-income and immigration educational groups, religious groups, cultural groups, innovative technology groups, homeless and other shelters, animal groups and more. Art becomes a means of exploring new ideas, fields and cultures. Through exhibitions, the resulting art becomes a means of conversing with the public in an engaging and easily-interpreted way, spreading knowledge to the community about the community itself. With my future public art projects I hope to continually heighten the quality and originality of the art, to explore a varied selection of materials, to bring engaging, interactive and informative art to the public, to give a comprehensive public-art education to the students, including the study of historical and contemporary public art. My projects address youth education, inclusivity and diversity, mental wellness through non-critical art educational practices, self-acceptance, collaboration, and opportunities for self-expression.

I see the Livermore Commission for the Arts as encouraging and promoting a diverse public expression of the arts that includes many voices from many backgrounds. Ideally, this would include unknown and unique styles of expression as well as well-known and popular styles of expression, strengthening already-thriving forms of art and encouraging public education of new forms of art. I would expect the Commission to encourage and develop arts that include youth participation in the form of workshops during the creating of the art form, or interacting with the completed expression. I would hope that the Commission would encourage public art that actively or intellectually addresses the current goals and issues of the the city (i.e. the strategic plan) in some way. I would hope that future public art forms approved by the Commission would equal the efforts and support of any field of intellectual pursuit, economic endeavor and public outreach projects the city proposes.

The Livermore Commission for the Arts could assist the city council in its five-year strategic plan by: • Encouraging the locals arts events and displays to voice elements of local concern and interest. For example, creating a public visual arts park that works with the idea of Innovation, STEM education and Environmental preservation: a park whose art is part of play structures with science themes, part of already-planned picnic areas and trails (art on benches or creating mosaic walkways, picnic area structures that are also artworks (through calls for art for such work)), art structures and outdoor paintings created around native plant gardens that enhance rather than detract from their natural dormancy during droughts). • Encouraging art that using resources already in existence, or activity address the concern of recycling. • Encouraging art that promotes green energy, such as solar-powered kinetic art, or solar- powered outdoor lighting. • Incorporating public art into already-existing and already-planned public structures, pooling economic resources. • Engaging public discourse and creating public awareness of strategic plan goals and objectives through arts events where the public make community art such as temporary portable murals. For example, having schools participate in making collaborative artworks, each school focusing on a different strategic goal, and thus educating the students of these goals.

Through a public exhibition of these works, parents and the general public would, in turn be educated about the plan. • Reaching out to all sectors of the community, including them in arts events, and displaying or performing in diverse spaces - libraries, outdoor parks, downtown spaces - to encourage the enjoyment and awareness of those spaces.

87 Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I would hope that future public art forms approved by the Commission would equal the efforts and support of any field of intellectual pursuit, economic endeavor and public outreach projects the city propose Describe your expectations and anticipated contributions as a member of the Commission for the Arts.

As an artist, arts educator, creator of numerous public art projects, youth workshops on public art and community arts projects, as well as having worked with many groups in diverse fields (schools, non-profit youth and other organizations, businesses etc.) in the greater Tri-Valley area, my experience and knowledge would benefit plans for the future of arts in Livermore. My own public art project plans are growing naturally more inclusive of the issues addressed by the city's five-year strategic plan. I am naturally interested in the environment, the economy, the diverse youth and traditionally under-served communities, the history of Livermore and California in general (including geologic and archaeologic aspects), and the arts and sciences working in collaboration with each other. My own personal work includes these aspects, and my public art aims to incorporate these and other aspects. I feel that at this stage in my life and career I would be a valuable addition to the city's arts plans currently and for the future.

88 Question applies to Commission for the Arts
Describe your experience in the area of arts or other background (educational, business, or professional) that might be useful to you as a member of the Commission for the Arts.

Question applies to Commission for the Arts
What challenges do you see facing art (in terms of public access to, public support, or social value)?
I feel that sometimes, locally, art is seen as an add-on to city development and redevelopment plans. I would like to see art's role placed more centrally to local building plans, making it more a necessary and functional part of the overall design, which would strongly enhance the city's beautification plans. Another challenge would be to incorporate a more diverse and unique collection of public art, akin to a museum exhibition, where art is not just merely decorative, but also educational and intellectual and aligned with the intellectual and thoughtful art that is traditional in California's history. A third challenge would be gathering enough financial resources to support high-quality public art, the supplies needed and the artist fees (enough to realistically cover living costs of a working member of the community). Art is a highly valuable, enriching aspect of society that joins together many sectors and aspects of the community, and encourages thought and discussion as well as bringing beauty to the city environment.

Question applies to Commission for the Arts
Do you foresee any conflict of interest in serving on the Commission? If so, explain below.

89 Question applies to Commission for the Arts
Selecting an artist is the most important part of the public art process. What procedure is likely to produce the best result?
A wide call for art. A review of applications by a number of reviewers. Selected graded criteria by which to review applications with points given. A group discussion by reviewers of the applications with highest points. Interviews with the chosen finalists and a second detailed sketch of proposed art with any changes made as suggested by the reviewing panel.

Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly explain your interest in serving on the Advisory Body(s) you have selected. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
As an arts commissioner, I would be very interested in working with various local entities and community organizations to expand existing arts programs and find ways to encourage arts and humanities in schools and the community-especially as a way for young people to channel and express their emotions.

Arts and humanities are a vital part of Livermore's identity, so I would also look forward to working with the City Council, other arts commissioners, and various community stakeholders in amplifying that part of our identity through public art.

Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.

I was a Boy Scout in the Livermore-based Troop 924 for 4 years. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, I've been politically involved in Livermore, working on the campaign of now-former Mayor Bob Woerner and supporting multiple local candidates across two (soon to be three) election cycles. I also ran for LVJUSD School Board in 2022.

The Commission for the Arts works to advise and support the City Council's goals, incorporate public art in the community, and support programs through Livermore's schools and local organizations that promote the arts and encourage community involvement in the arts.

Question applies to multiple boards
Review the City Council's 5-Year Strategic Plan (You may review them here:
https://www.livermoreca.gov/government/city-council/five-year-strategic-plan ) Briefly describe how you anticipate this Advisory Body will assist the City Council in implementing the plan. (If you are applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I have identified multiple goals in the 5-Year Strategic Plan that align with the Commission for the Arts's objectives. Goal 12 of A Safe Community That Thrives: The Commission for the Arts should work with the Library Board of Trustees in recognizing literature as an art form and implementing reading and writing programs (as well as promoting those that already exist) through the library. Creative writing is a great way to refine one's writing and literacy skills, and the Commission for the Arts should work to promote that. Goals 1 and 2 of Inclusive and Inviting Spaces and Places: Arts and humanities are a crucial part of Livermore's identity. The Commission for the Arts should therefore work with the City Council to make public art a crucial element of the Downtown Specific Plan and the Isabel Neighborhood Specific Plan and work with relevant entities to expand existing art programs and create new art programs, especially those that encourage youth involvement and those that support local businesses and organizations. Goals 1 and 2 of A City That Works: I have existing relationships with the Mayor and City Council and would use those relationships to ensure that the Commission for the Arts's priorities are aligned with those of the City Council and engage the City Council in securing funding for public arts and arts programs and finding ways to expand public art. Goal 4 of A City That Works: I have existing relationships with state and federal leaders (including those that represent Livermore and those that represent other parts of California) and would work with those leaders to secure funding for arts programs in Livermore and advance and promote arts programs in Livermore and the East Bay at-large. Goal 7 of A City That Works: As a young person myself, I know firsthand that arts and humanities provide great ways for young people to express themselves, and linking that to community involvement will bring more youth voices into the mix. I would be interested in working with the Youth Advisory Commission and other relevant entities to establish and expand youth-oriented arts programs in schools and the community.

94 Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
The Commission for the Arts can strategically spend unspent funds to expand existing arts programs; create new arts programs in partnership with various local entities and community organizations; and find new ways to extend arts programs to Livermore's youth, all in a way that is consistent with the City Council's goals and priorities.

Describe your expectations and anticipated contributions as a member of the Commission for the Arts.

There is a lot of talk on the Commission for the Arts about youth-oriented arts programs and arts programs in the library and public schools. As a Gen Zer with a personal relationship with the arts, I believe I would bring a much-needed perspective to the Commission for the Arts, including speaking to the artistic needs of Livermore's youth and developing creative ideas to expand the aforementioned programs; furthermore, I believe my perspective as a young person would mesh well with those currently serving on the Commission. I would also work to ensure the Commission is spending the money it is allocated to expand existing programs, develop new programs, and prevent potential budget cuts.

Additionally, I think my existing relationships with local, state, and federal elected officials and city staff would serve as a benefit to the Commission.

Question applies to Commission for the Arts
Describe your experience in the area of arts or other background (educational, business, or professional) that might be useful to you as a member of the Commission for the Arts.

I took the occasional art class in high school and have used graphic design and writing (including creative writing, technical writing, and copywriting) in my professional field both as an art form and as a political messaging tool. I also have 10 short stories published in online literary journals and three self-published collections on Amazon, including a short story collection and two poetry collections.

Question applies to Commission for the Arts
What challenges do you see facing art (in terms of public access to, public support, or social value)?
During the January 2024 meeting, it was explained that for FY 2023-24, art projects and other programs overseen by the Commission for the Arts had been allocated $223,829, of which only $15,000 had been spent and $25,129 had been encumbered. The challenge here is obvious: while there is certainly money in the budget to expand art programs, it is simply not being spent, which means the public has fewer opportunities to access public art and engage in public art programs. There is certainly support for public art both as a city beautification tool and a vehicle for economic development. It is therefore incumbent on the Commission for the Arts to spend that money and continue to boost and expand public art programs.

Ensuring such a project and selection is consistent with the City Council's goals and priorities; reviewing and making decisions that can be made before an artist is selected; obtaining public input on both the art project and the artist selection process; being clear about the City and Commission's expectations in searching for artists; interviewing each artist that applies and scrutinizing each of their portfolios; reviewing the selection first in subcommittee and then before the entire Commission; and making a final recommendation to the City Council.

It looks like the 48-page Strategic Plan mentions the airport only once, under "infrastructure" on page 45.

Surely the Airport Commission can contribute more than overseeing the development and maintenance of airport facilities and property leases. The Airport and the Airport Commission can also contribute to the City's goals for emergency preparedness, transportation efficiency, and economic growth, and the Commission should have a role in the goal of revising the noise ordinance. For the Environmental Stewardship pillar, the question of unleaded aviation fuel seems important.

Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
See previous response.

Question applies to multiple boards
Describe your anticipated contributions as a member of this Advisory Body. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.) I could represent pilots who don't have their own plane or hangar. I've been a member of the largest owner/operator club at Livermore Airport (the Flying Particles) for more than 10 years, and I would use the club resources to understand the needs of these pilots. I've also been an engineer in quality assurance and regulatory affairs for decades, and I co-founded two successful medical-device startups, so I'm familiar with processes for meeting the needs of multiple stakeholders in a regulated environment.

What else would you like the City Council to know about you? If you would like to provide additional information (resume, personal website, etc.) please use the Upload Resume button.

Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly explain your interest in serving on the Advisory Body(s) you have selected. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I was a pilot in the Navy and now a longtime Livermore resident. I continue to have an interest in aviation as well as utilization of the airport and nearby areas for both aviation and other purposes. I believe the new study on future development of the airport and its surroundings is important, and I think I can contribute opinions based both on my aviation, aero engineering, and R&D background.

The purpose of the advisory board is to represent and further the interest of the aviation industry, and ultimately serve the public interest. I think the board should balance aviation desires with community concerns in mind, while acknowledging that the airport and aviation have a right to exist and operate.

I agree with the 5-year plan towards using the airport as a center of R&D and commercialization of aviation technologies, as well as making Livermore a hub for clean and quiet transportation options.

Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I expect the airport board to take into consideration the desires of airport tenants and pilots, but also expand the nexus of the airport to include R&D activities. Furthermore, the board should hear from the public on their concerns (e.g. noise) and take those considerations into account when making airport decisions.

Question applies to multiple boards
Describe your anticipated contributions as a member of this Advisory Body. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.) I have a background in flying, aero engineering, research & development, and a longtime resident. As such, I thin I am qualified to comment and have insights on a variety of issues involving Livermore airport and its nearby surroundings.

The Library Board advises the City Council on all matters related to the Library -- the Board would seek to provide an objective opinion concerning Library policies, programs and services. Furthermore, I believe that the Board should serve as an information resource to the Council regarding the role that the Library serves in the community.

The Library supports each of the five Community Pillars of the Livermore’s Strategic Plan. The Safe Community that Thrives pillar calls out literacy — the Library literacy program is expanding and helping an increasing number of English language learners. English conversation groups are growing outside the Library walls. For the second pillar, an Economy that Prospers , the Library is an innovation and economic development engine -- providing employment and training resources to job seekers and business, management, financial and economic information resources to small-business owners. Libraries can provide needed infrastructure to new businesses as they develop their business and client base. By supporting a fledgling business as it grows into a successful enterprise that contributes to the tax base, the Library helps insure Livermore's long-term financial viability and enhances the city's standing as a center for innovation. The Library collections, electronic resources, and programs will serve anyone seeking to support the third pillar, Environmental Stewardship. As a knowledge center, the Library will support any individual seeking to learn how they may improve their environmental impact. Pillar four, Inclusive and Inviting Spaces and Places, specifically calls out the Library. Library programs display the diversity of the community. Library spaces are inviting to any person. Library events are community events with some individual events reaching more than a 1000 people at once. Since it is a community hub, the Library is a setting for pillar five, a City that Works. What better place for the City to engage its people than a place in which its people naturally gather? In summary, libraries are the heart of the community: serving as a knowledge center for anyone who wants to expand their knowledge; serving as a gathering place for formal or informal community groups; serving as a language learning center for new readers or English language-learners; serving as a cultural center where individuals could learn and experience other cultures in the community and/or world; serving as a resource center for housing seekers and the homeless, and serving as the gateway to the digital information resources that the community may not be able to access from home or office.

Briefly explain your interest in serving on the Advisory Body(s) you have selected. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
My passion and business is focused on educating people about the benefits and wonders of our native and local landscape, which I interpret to mean the post colonial landscape that includes agriculture, parks, and open space. The Beautification Committee has a responsibility to excite the population about where they live and help them learn to support and appreciate our local natural resources while also get them excited to create their own small piece of beauty at their properties.

Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.

I was on the Landscape Maintenance District Committee years ago for 2 yrs. which supported the efforts of City Staff to deal with the myriad LMD districts throughout the city. I volunteer with the school district and have designed several school gardens. I was instrumental in getting the Sunset Elementary School garden up and running after years of neglect. It continues to thrive. I have volunteered with StopWaste, Alameda Cty for years and assisted in free workshops for citizens in Livermore and Pleasanton to encourage water wise garden design, promoting sheet mulching to 'Lose the Lawn', and pushing California Native Plants. I volunteer on the Open Space committee for LARPD (5 yrs) helping to maintain the two native gardens at SGP among other tasks.

The Beautification Committee has several missions. One is to encourage respect and enthusiasm for our surrounding landscape and support it's protection. One is to encourage water wise but beautiful residential and commercial landscapes through the Beautification Award (which I received last year). Another, to me, is to encourage healthy maintenance practices which can lessen the green waste load on the community while building strong soils and public plantings. The Committee is a support arm for City Staff and responsible for the expertise and judgement asked of it for projects under review.

The Committee's support to Council falls under several pillars in the Strategic Plan including Environmental Sustainability, A Safe Community That Thrives, and Inclusive and Inviting Spaces and Places. We can provide guidance as the city updates landscape guidelines, permits housing and exterior design elements, and moves toward a California Native plant palette as authorized by the state for commercial and municipal properties. (This is one law I'm REALLY excited about!) Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
Beautification used to infer cute, historical and dainty responses to built landscapes. I see the Advisory Body changing with the current state of affairs to encompass a broader sense of natural beauty, sense of place, and love where you live efforts. Celebrating water wise and California native landscapes will help the community meet the needs of the future while celebrating the environment in which we all live in today. If the Committee can further this idea, we will have accomplished a huge leap forward.

Question applies to multiple boards
Describe your anticipated contributions as a member of this Advisory Body. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.) I love our parks. I know our parks. I know California native plants, those which will work here in our climate and those which will not thrive. I am hopeful that as a society we are moving towards being gentler on the land and supporting our local flora and fauna which helps the whole ecosystem. I also love good design and see my talent as a designer of hundreds of private and public gardens as a benefit to the Committee. I'm excited to give back to a community where I was raised and now am raising my own kids.

As a 20+ year resident of Livermore I am interested in preserving and improving the beauty of our city. I frequently hike Sycamore Grove, Del Valle, Brushy Peak, Holdner Park and other walking trails around the city. While I notice small issues that can be improved I know with some effort we can bring back the true beauty of the city.

Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.

My son and I have volunteered with Living Arroyos, which has helped plant trees and pick up trash in several creek areas of Livermore. I have participated in the Bikes and Brews events hosted by the Livermore Valley Craft Beer Foundation. I have been an officer in the Mad Zymurgists homebrewing club for the last 10 years and we have volunteered at the Livermore Craft Beer Festival, which benefits local entities.

For the Beautification committee, I would like to identify potential improvement projects that will improve the beauty of Livermore. I would hope this includes streets, parks, and grounds around city buildings. I also think we should identify policies that may help maintain park beauty. Briefly explain your interest in serving on the Advisory Body(s) you have selected. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I am interested in applying for a spot within the Beautification Committee because it aligns with my interests and aspirations to help maintain a sustainable and clean environment and enhance every Livermore resident's quality of life through environmental stewardship. Through my independent work in clearing up litter and illegal dumping sites throughout Livermore and the Bay Area, I believe I can help the Beautification Committee identify locations that are potential candidates for targeted beautification efforts and recommend potential solutions to this problem. I also have experience in setting up events involving 5-10 people to help beautify roadways with significant amount of litter. I ensure that they follow proper protocol and can enjoy the volunteer work without any detriment to their safety. I can use this experience to help coordinate the materials and supplies needed for city-wide activities and events. I can also leverage my online presence to publicize them. I am also interested in exploring other areas of beautification outside of removing litter and illegal dumping sites, such as identifying areas in need of trees, establishing new parks, etc.

The purpose of the Beautification Committee is to explore and enact plans that can ensure Livermore remains prosperous and environmentally-sustainable as Livermore's population rises and significant economic development is underway for Livermore's downtown. The Beautification Committee also focuses on measures allowing Livermore residents to thrive and surround themselves under an environment that is beneficial to their physical and mental health.

One of the pages on the 5-Year Strategic Plan discusses about fostering a city that can "preserve and protect Livermore's climate and environment for future generations". This is absolutely relevant to the Beautification Committee as it can assist City Council in devising ways to ensure that Livermore's environment remains pristine while its economy and population continues to grow. Whether it is through activities and events or outreach, the Beautification Committee can continue to make great strides to inspire residents to take up environmental stewardship, thus creating a virtuous cycle. The plan also showcases the immense progress and focus made to Livermore's infrastructure. Given the aftermath of the devastating storms that impacted Livermore last year, it is important that special attention is given to our waterways and sewer systems. Preventive measures should be made to prevent trash from impeding the drains, otherwise flooding may occur and it can incur substantial economic costs to Livermore and its residents.

Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I hope that through the events and activities planned by the Beautification Committee, we can instill civic pride among Livermore residents and inspire them to undertake environmental stewardship.

My interest in serving on the Beautification Advisory Body at the City of Livermore stems from a deep appreciation for the role that public spaces play in enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. I am passionate about the opportunity to contribute to the aesthetic and environmental stewardship of Livermore, ensuring it remains a vibrant, welcoming, and sustainable community. Having observed the transformative impact that thoughtful landscaping, public art, and well-maintained communal areas can have on a city's atmosphere and spirit, I am eager to apply my skills and enthusiasm to promote beautification projects that reflect the unique character and values of Livermore. My background in environmental science, coupled with experience in community engagement, positions me well to collaborate effectively with fellow board members, city staff, and the public to identify and implement beautification initiatives that enhance the city's charm and livability. I am particularly interested in initiatives that not only improve the visual appeal of Livermore but also foster environmental sustainability, such as the integration of native plant species in public landscaping, the promotion of green spaces that support biodiversity, and the incorporation of eco-friendly materials and practices in beautification projects. By serving on the Beautification Advisory Body, I hope to contribute to creating spaces that not only look beautiful but are also resilient and nurturing for the environment and the community.
