Briefly explain your interest in serving on the Advisory Body(s) you have selected. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I want to join the Human Services Advisory Committee because I believe in the power of community support. I care deeply about helping people access essential resources and improving local programs. My goal is to work with others to improve gaps and support marginalized groups. This role will also help me learn from different viewpoints, so I can contribute effectively to our community.
Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.
I played a key role in organizing and launching an annual neighborhood reunion in Modesto, which has since evolved into a community committee recognized by the Stanislaus Latino Chamber of Commerce. We started this neighborhood reunion in 2011, and it was held annually for three consecutive years. After a break during the committee's restructuring, the reunion returned in 2024 with support and recognition by the Stanislaus Latino Chamber of Commerce, the Modesto Police Department and City Council. I also actively participate as a member of my union's negotiation team where I have been involved for a year and continue to serve. Contributing to discussions and advocating for fair terms and conditions on behalf of our members. My involvement includes collaborating with colleagues to address key issues, preparing proposals, and representing our collective interests in dialogue with management and superintendents. Through this experience, I helped strengthen our union's position and foster unity among members during the negotiation process.

Review the City Council's 5-Year Strategic Plan (You may review them here:
https://www.livermoreca.gov/government/city-council/five-year-strategic-plan ) Briefly describe how you anticipate this Advisory Body will assist the City Council in implementing the plan. (If you are applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.) Our city is made up of its human population and I believe each person wants to live a life with dignity. The City's strategic plan addresses the components that heavily influence one's ability to live with dignity. They are: 1) a safe community to thrive, 2) economy that prospers, 3) environmental stewardship, 4) inclusive and inviting spaces and places, and 5) a city that works or operates well. I believe residents want to feel safe, want to earn a living, care about their surroundings, want to feel seen and heard, and want to know that they can get help from the city, when asked. As a member of the Human Services Advisory Board (should I be selected) is to ensure that we keep the center our community's needs, which align with the city's strategic plan.
Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
The Human Services Commission's "discusses community social needs, assists local agencies in procuring grant funds." It's important to provide services to our community and to increase revenue to continue to provide those services; I'd also like to see how we can continue providing services with ongoing funding and/or look for ways to continue funding - should grants be time-limited.
Question applies to multiple boards
Describe your anticipated contributions as a member of this Advisory Body. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
There are multiple ways that I will contribute to the Human Services Commission. As a Livermore resident for 18 years, I've learned and have personally experienced the many services, specifically the affordable homeownership program that the city offers. In addition, I am fully bilingual in English and Spanish and can communicate with the Spanish-speaking community to gain their perspective for our city. Furthermore, having served as a trustee for the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District, as well as my years working within public education, I have a deep understanding of how the public education system operates and how the city and schools can continue to collaborate to serve our city's residents.
