Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly explain your interest in serving on the Advisory Body(s) you have selected. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
As a former National Park Service park ranger prior to attending law school, I was employed at two significant National Historic Parks in the United States: Appomattox Court House National Historical Park (Appomattox, VA) and Fort Point National Historic Site (San Francisco, CA). During each of these employments, my primary responsibility was "historical interpretation" of the significance for these important National sites, including period representation; conducting speaking tours for up to 300 visitors interpreting the sites; and research of the overall significance and importance of both Appomattox and Fort Point.
Additionally, I am an avid history buff and quite interested in the history of the Livermore Valley and surrounding area. As such, I am confident that I would be an excellent addition to the Historic Preservation Commission for the City of Livermore.
Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.

There should be no question that the City of Livermore has a significant number of historic resources that, in my opinion, should be clearly catalogued; interpreted for the lay persons of our community and visitors to the community; and most importantly protected in perpetuity. The mission statement sets forth these important ideals in a clear and concise statement to which I very much agree.

23 Question applies to multiple boards
Review the City Council's 5-Year Strategic Plan (You may review them here:
https://www.livermoreca.gov/government/city-council/five-year-strategic-plan ) Briefly describe how you anticipate this Advisory Body will assist the City Council in implementing the plan. (If you are applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.) Most importantly, on Page 5 of the Five-Year Strategic Plan, it is indicated the "City's Vision" is to " . . . envision a future that honors our shared history and respects our environment as we seek equitable access to opportunity for all." This statement encapsulates the purpose of the Historic Preservation Commission to identify that "shared history" and enable it to be easily accessed to community members and visitors alike. The energy of commission members for such identification and interpretation of important historical resources within the community is vital to achieve this stated vision. Further, on Page 26 of the Five-Year Strategic Plan, with the Community Pillars section listing the creation of "inclusive and inviting spaces and places" the plan has unambiguously identified such spaces to be celebratory of our history, with historic preservation identified as Goal #5. No better words or description could have been used in the Five-Year Strategic Plan as CELEBRATING OUR HISTORY which I anticipate is a strong purpose for the Historic Preservation Commission advisory body.
Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
As noted above, my expectations of the Historic Preservation Commission advisory body would be to assertively assist the Livermore City Council by advising the council members of the details of historic sites, buildings, features, and other possible areas of their importance in being recognized and proactively protected for future generations. In my opinion, this is paramount and such a responsibility can only be conducted with clear factual evidence documented via historical record when available.
Question applies to multiple boards
Describe your anticipated contributions as a member of this Advisory Body. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
As noted above, I have practical experience and a genuine interest in historical preservation with my service as a National Park Service park ranger in the two national historical sites noted above. Additionally, as a Senior Litigation Attorney for the past 30 years, I have ample and significant training in factual interpretation, advisory methods, and extensive experience using my training and personal speaking skills to reach consensus among disparate parties. An important skill that I possess is that of a willing listener before reaching a decision on the merits. In summary, I anticipate my contributions to the Historic Preservation Commission for the City of Livermore would be very valuable and well received by the Livermore City Council. A detailed resume of my legal employment is available at your request.

Briefly explain your interest in serving on the Advisory Body(s) you have selected. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
This commission combines two of my favorite things: History and local government! As someone who was raised in Livermore I've also always had an appreciation for the historical sites this town has to offer.
Summarize your participation in civic or community activities, including years of service.
I admittedly don't have much formal experience. I have been a teacher in DUSD for eight years an elected leader of the Dublin Teachers Association going on three years, I have attended many school board meetings both as a union representative and also as a teacher in the district. While I lack formal experience in Civic participation I have taught Civics all eight years of my teaching career and like to think I know a thing or two about how government works.

My understanding of the purpose of the Historical Preservation Commission is to first preserve historically, culturally, artistically valuable sites throughout the city. As I teach my students, however, history is meaningless by itself and the value is made by engaging the community in the meaning-making process through education and celebration of the values and achievements these historical sites represent. So planning different education programs and events is an important part of the work this commission ought to be engaged in. Finally, making recommendations on any required retrofitting and restoration required for historical sites.

(If you are applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.) This commission helps further many of the goals outlined in the 5-year plan. An appreciation of shared history helps forge stronger community ties, and a strong, connected community is perhaps one of the most important factors in crime prevention. Organizing events that celebrate history and shared values helps build communities. It will also help build a more inclusive community by highlighting the accomplishments of diverse groups throughout Livermore's history.
Question applies to multiple boards
Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I expect this body to preserve and protect significant sites while organizing events that engage and educate the community.

I hope that bringing my appreciation and understanding of history to the commission will be valuable in some way. I have also lived in Livermore for half of my live, and as I begin starting my own family here I have developed a much deeper appreciation for the city and all that is has to offer.

The Livermore Human Services Commission serves as the principal advisory body to the City Council on community social needs—particularly those of low- and moderate-income residents. Its key responsibilities include: 1. Advising the City Council on social conditions and human services strategies, including public education, housing, health, grants, and outreach. 2. Providing feedback and recommendations regarding the Multi-Service Center, such as which services to offer and how to operate the space effectively. 3. Ensuring compliance with federal citizen participation requirements—like the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974 and Cranston-Gonzalez Affordable Housing Act of 1990—by facilitating public engagement and transparency in funding and programs. 4. Reviewing and proposing allocations for federal and local human services funds, including the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and HOME Investment Partnership Program. 5. Acting as a community forum that collects public input, evaluates social needs, and communicates findings and recommendations to the City Council. In essence, the Commission plays a pivotal role in shaping how Livermore responds to critical human services needs, from grant- making to public outreach and policy guidance.
Question applies to multiple boards
Review the City Council's 5-Year Strategic Plan (You may review them here:
https://www.livermoreca.gov/government/city-council/five-year-strategic-plan ) Briefly describe how you anticipate this Advisory Body will assist the City Council in implementing the plan. (If you are applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.) The Livermore Human Services Commission plays a key role in advancing the City Council’s 2023–2028 Strategic Plan, particularly under the pillar “A Safe Community That Thrives.” This pillar emphasizes expanding and improving access to human services, supporting affordable housing, and strengthening partnerships with nonprofits—all central to the Commission’s mission. Specifically, the Commission helps implement Goal 8: Expand and improve access to human services by: 1. Recommending funding allocations to nonprofit providers using federal and local grants, 2. Advising on services at the Multi-Service Center and other support facilities, 3. Facilitating collaboration among service organizations, and 4.
Identifying unmet needs in areas such as housing stability, food access, mental health, and wellness. Through community engagement, needs assessments, and grant oversight, the HSC ensures that City resources are aligned with equity, inclusion, and sustainability—key values in the strategic plan. By amplifying community voices and supporting targeted service delivery, the Commission directly helps the City Council achieve its vision of a healthy, welcoming, and resilient Livermore.

Briefly describe your expectations of this Advisory Body's accomplishments or outcomes. (If applying for more than one Advisory Body, please include a response for each Advisory Body.)
I believe the Human Services Commission should help ensure that Livermore’s most vulnerable residents have access to essential support services. I expect the Commission to make thoughtful, equitable funding recommendations, based on real community needs and data, and to strengthen partnerships between the City and local nonprofits. Ultimately, I hope the Commission’s work leads to measurable improvements in housing stability, mental health support, and overall quality of life for underserved populations in Livermore. I also see it as a platform to amplify community voices and promote inclusive, transparent decision- making.
