1 TO: City Council
FROM: Andrew Vialpando, City Manager
PREPARED BY: Lina Hernandez, Deputy City Manager/Public Works Director MEETING DATE: January 21, 2025
SUBJECT: Approve funds for Emergency Sidewalk Repair

RECOMMENDATION
Approve funds in the amount not to exceed $5,000 for emergency sidewalk repair with Rojas Construction.

BACKGROUND
On August 6, 2024, the City Council awarded an agreement to Rojas Construction to repair and replace 27 sidewalk locations as part of the City’s Sidewalk Repair Program, as a result of an extensive survey conducted in 2023 to inspect the conduction of sidewalks throughout the City. The purpose of this project is to maintain a safe pedestrian walkway for residents and visitors alike as part of the City of Lomita’s commitment to expanding pedestrian transportation safety.

DISCUSSION
Rojas Construction began work in November 2024 for the 27 agreed sites. During this time, a broken curb at the corner of 24516 Narbonne Avenue resulted from an overweight vehicle reversing in the alley. The quote from Rojas Construction to complete this additional repair was $5,000 (the invoice is attached to this report as an attachment). The repair was added as an unforeseen emergency work order to quickly address the public hazard.

It is recommended that the City Council approve $5,000 for the emergency repair.

Minor repair work is pending and the Notice of Completion will be brought before the Council for the complete Sidewalk Repair Program Project in the near future.
