RECOMMENDATION
Interview applicants for consideration of filling one vacant seat on the Parks and Recreation Commission with a term ending June 2028; and schedule item for nominations and possible appointment to the position at the next regular City Council meeting.
BACKGROUND
Members of the Parks and Recreation Commission are appointed by the City Council.
Commission members serve staggered terms of four (4) years expiring June 1 of the year the term is set to expire. If vacancies occur, otherwise than by expiration of the term, they shall be filled by appointment for the unexpired portion of the term. At the expiration of each term, or unexpected vacancy occurs, a vacancy notice is advertised and resumes accepted. The City Council may conduct interviews to appoint the most qualified individual.
DISCUSSION
On December 2, 2024, Commissioner Terry Winn informed staff of her resignation from the Parks and Recreation Commission. As per the requirement by Gov. Code 54974, “Unscheduled Vacancy”, a special vacancy notice was posted on December 4, 2024, at City Hall, Lomita Park, and on the City’s website notifying the public of the vacancy and that Commission applications were being accepted. Additionally, the City posted notices in the bi-weekly newsletter and on social media to ensure the public was aware that a position on a commission was available. To date, six applications have been received.
Staff recommends that the Council interview the applicants on the attached roster and Item No. SCH 3a

consider a candidate to nominate to fill the vacant seat on the Parks and Recreation Commission with a term that ends June 2028.
