SUBJECT: City Commissioner Appointments
RECOMMENDATION
Consider the nomination and appointment of applicants to fill two expiring seats on the Parks and Recreation Commission, two seats on the Planning Commission, and one seat on the Public Traffic Safety Commission for four-year terms ending June 2029.
BACKGROUND
City Commissioners are appointed by the City Council and serve staggered terms of four (4) years expiring June 1. At the expiration of each term, or when an unexpected vacancy occurs, a vacancy notice is advertised, and applications are accepted. The City Council may conduct interviews to appoint the most qualified individuals.
DISCUSSION
Terms expired for two seats on the Planning Commission, two seats on the Parks and Recreation Commisison and one seat on the Public Safety Traffic Commission. The City Council held a special meeting to conduct interviews for new applicants. Commissioner incumbents who requested consideration for reappointment and interested applicants that were previously interviewed were added to the qualified list for consideration. Staff recommends that the City Council consider the applications received and nominate to appoint by majority vote candidates from the list of qualified candidates to fill each Commissioner seat set to expire.
