Subject: Re: Council Agenda Item #25 (22-0112) today ("issuance of bonds by the California Community Housing Agency to finance the development of the Civic Center Mid-Block")

-EXTERNAL-

Dear City Councilmembers and Officials,

Here we go again and again and again, another pie in the sky project with the potential of hurting the bottom dollar of hard working residents of our wonderful City.

Please vote NO and oppose this proposed agenda item, and rethink the situation you have placed all of us in. Just like the Queen Mary fiasco, another sinking ship that you were warned would not pan out was our Community Hospital, even the previous operator clearly warned you, so did City staff and many neighbors, yet City Council took the bait and bargained with our tax dollars and our City assets. In both of these cases you have rushed in to place duck tape, paint and pretty flowers to find out that it was a bad choice, leaving taxpayers with hefty bills. The City has made what some would call unnecessary blunders or wasteful choices that are not helping common folk with their quality of life. Choices that have left residents with billions of dollars of debt and gaping potholes, deteriorating public assets and our children in debt.

This project, just like the cooked up idea of a homeless center in North Long Beach is just a farce and will not produce the intended outcomes, for many reasons. Our boom and bust economy is reaching the end of its cycle and embarking on a risky venture on top of other risky ventures that this City has approved with our tax dollars is foolish.

Please stop and reconsider your decision, create a community blue ribbon task force with local architects, urban planners, our City Auditor and a consultant that can analyze the proposal.

Keep in mind what I mentioned above, our children will be left with the weight of an unsustainable debt that this body is loading the residents of Long Beach with. In the end it may not make this City more affordable, on the contrary it will make it increasingly more expensive and those folks you are attempting to convince will be helped, will in the end be the least helped. What happens if this project fails? The taxpayers will be left holding the bag of an even greater financial burden. None of us need or want another boondoggle in this City. We have had more than our fair share in the last few years.

Think about our communities welfare, before your political career or self aggrandizing selfie pictures.
