RESOLUTION NO. RES-22-0020
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF LONG BEACH AUTHORIZING THE CITY
MANAGER TO EXECUTE A CONTRACT, AND ANY
AMENDMENTS THERETO, WITH MEDIANEWS GROUP,
INC. TO PROVIDE THE PRESS TELEGRAM DIGITAL
SUBSC RIPTION ACCESS TO CITY OF LONG BEACH
EMPLOYEES IN AN ANNUAL AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED
$5,500 FOR A PERIOD OF TWO YEARS WITH THE
OPTION TO RENEW FOR THREE ADDITIONAL ONE-YEAR
PERIODS, AT THE DISCRETION OF THE CITY MANAGER
WHEREAS, multiple City departments currently receive daily print newspaper copies of the Press-Telegram; and
WHEREAS, the Press-Telegram is the only daily newspaper with general circulation specifically for the City of Long Beach; and WHEREAS, as the City transitions to an increased hybrid work setting and increased mobile work environments, the Technology and Innovation Department is seeking to increase ways to digitized services and access to information; and WHEREAS, the digital subscription to the Press-Telegram will allow all City of Long Beach employees to access Press-Telegram content. Access to Press-Telegram content will allow City staff to stay informed on State, regional, and local news as well as 24 City initiatives and programs; and

23 25 WHEREAS, MediaNews Group, Inc. is the sole provider of The Press 26 Telegram digital subscription and no other alternative is available to procure digital 27 access to Press Telegram content; and

Section 1. The above recitals are true and correct and are incorporated Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to execute a contract, and any amendments thereto, with MediaNews Group, Inc. in an annual amount not to exceed Five Thousand Five Hundred Dollars ($5,500) for a period of two (2) years with the option to renew for three (3) additional one-year periods, at the discretion of the City Manager.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by the City Council, and the City Clerk shall certify the vote adopting this resolution.
I hereby certify that the foregoing resolution was adopted by the City Council of the City of Long Beach at its meeting of February 1 , 2022 by the following vote:
