Subject: Item 9 Recall & retention 2-15 city council meeting

-EXTERNAL-

I speak as Chair of the South Coast Interfaith Council which includes 150 faith communities and 1700 individual members in Long Beach and neighboring communities. We believe in creating communities of compassion, and therefore I urge you to vote Yes on item 9. Hotel and janitorial workers were and still are on the frontlines of this pandemic and we thank them for their work. We also pray for them and their families as they bore the economic uncertainty of being laid off. We support this motion to extend the Recall and Retention ordinances so that these workers can return to work - even if the business was sold to a new owner. This pandemic has taught us of the inequities built into our system and the cost of those inequities. Our hotel and janitorial workers deserve equity and justice along with our compassion.

Thank you!
