City Clerk Monique De La Garza,
As a Long Beach resident, I’m proud of our city for denying JP23 a permanent business license and entertainment permit. This bar is not only a nuisance, but a threat to our community’s safety.
Allegedly, since the opening of its Fullerton location in 2016, a number of people have come forward to share that they’ve blacked out after consuming one drink - directly handed to them by the bartenders of JP23, that they’ve been drugged, sexually assaulted, and have woken up in bouncers’ cars with bruises on their body, that they’ve been robbed at gunpoint by the bouncers in the restroom.
Since then, protesters have rallied outside of both the Fullerton and Long Beach locations and were met with violence at the hands of the owner, his friends, and the bouncers.
Is this the kind of business we want in our Long Beach community? I ask that you use your platform to prevent harm against your constituents by continuing to oppose JP23’s business license application on April 12, 2022 and for as long as they attempt to remain in this city.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

City Clerk Monique De La Garza,
I am a Fullerton resident and business owner next door to the Fullerton JP23. Denying the business license for this location is a great decision for your business owners and residents.
We have experienced so many inconveniences in which local authorities are unable to assist with. Long Beach is a wonderful city and already has a vibrant nightlife, this kind of establishment is unnecessary.
Please do not repeal your decision for the best of your community.

As a women in Long Beach it is deeply disturbing that this is happening in my city. I should not have to fear for my safety every time I leave my home due to city leadership ignoring the cries of victims. This business has ultimately changed people’s live FOREVER causing irreversible harm. It is time for city leadership to stand up for its residents and do what is right.
Is this the kind of business we want in our Long Beach community? Do we want to create a message that Long Beach is a city where you should fear for your life every time you want to enjoy it?
I ask that you use your platform to prevent harm against your constituents by continuing to oppose JP23’s business license application on April 12, 2022 and for as long as they attempt to remain in this city.

City Clerk Monique De La Garza,
As a Long Beach supporter, I’m proud of the city for denying JP23 a permanent business license and entertainment permit.

I myself am a victim of robbery from jp23, jp23 and the Fullerton police falsely accused me of attempted murder: thanks to my attorney, everything is looking good. I want jp23 closed.

I walk by this club at night and it is a nuisance like no other downtown. The next day the sidewalk outside is trashed. Awful for downtown and Pine.

I am personally highly uncomfortable with the presence of JP23 in our community. Aside from the heinous instances of sexual violence that have occurred at JP23, the business itself has demonstrated an unwillingness to abide by city codes in its operation.

As a Long Beach resident and sexual violence prevention/response professional, I’m proud of our city for denying JP23 a permanent business license and entertainment permit. This bar is a threat to our community’s safety.

The owner, Jacob Poozhikala, has responded to journalists, claiming the allegations are baseless. However, JP23 Fullerton has previously had its liquor license suspended after it was determined that there were “chemicals” in the drinks.

Personally, I worked at a nightclub downtown for a year and the last thing Long Beach needs is another unsafe place where less-than-considerate men can prey on women. When I worked there, my female colleagues had endless warnings about the area and being out at 165
night. We need fewer, not more, reasons to attract people who have hurt me and my former colleagues to Pine Ave.
I have seen the way this business has responded to the experiences of survivors and, as a survivor myself, it makes my stomach turn. I have not returned to Pine Ave to enjoy myself since JP23 opened and I will not return until they are gone because it is simply unsafe.
Please listen to the community and deny this license once and for all.
Thank you for your time and attention to this matter.

As a Long Beach resident, I’m proud of our city for denying JP23 a permanent business license and entertainment permit. This bar is not only a nuisance, but a threat to our community’s safety.
I was also a resident in Anaheim, CA and student at CSUF. This business only attracts people that know they can take advantage of women, and these people will spread to other places of business just as is the case in Downtown Fullerton. The lack of accountability and safety had created such an unsafe environment that I no longer would spend my time or money in that area on weekend nights, out of fear for my safety and wellbeing. I hope that Long Beach will not follow the mistakes of Fullerton.
Since the opening of its Fullerton location in 2016, a number of people have come forward to share that they’ve blacked out after consuming one drink - directly handed to them by the bartenders of JP23, that they’ve been drugged, sexually assaulted, and have woken up in bouncers’ cars with bruises on their body, that they’ve been robbed at gunpoint by the bouncers in the restroom.
