Dear Council Members,
I strongly support agenda item #11 because improved road design is the single best way to decrease pedestrian fatalities. The Downtown Walkable Corners Project deserves full funding and City staff should be encouraged to expand COMPLETE STREETS road design and active transportation options for Long Beach.
We have to stop designing our roads for cars and then feigning surprise when pedestrians and cyclists are regularly killed by speeding vehicles and reckless drivers. Redesign the streets for pedestrians first.
