1. (22-0462) Recommendation to receive and file a
report from Mayor Garcia's travel to Washington,
D.C. with City and Port of Long Beach officials for
meetings with the City's federal legislative delegation and federal agencies.
Dave Shukla [email protected] Aw... did Robert Garcia type this up himself? Went to D.C., had some meetings.
About IIJA investments all, and uniquely, in his former Council District, gerrymandered into a "superdistrict" in contravention of the past 30-odd years of LB City Council governance and evolution...
With Port folks! Just-in-time to follow on some photo-ops on 4/28/22! How very droll.
Notably, whence running to replace a Congressman whose geographic base of support was cut in half (along the county line) in our State redistricting process?
Tell us, was one of the things discussed how to make the case that Robert Garcia's candidacy to succeed said Congressman would be what is "best for Long Beach" ?
Please explain, what happens if the people in this new Congressional District (#42! - meaning of life and Jackie Robinson, don't ya know?) decide that the conception of "what is best for Long Beach" is not what is best for them?
Got leave LB to best help LB, huh?
After this whole three terms nonsense?

Dear Honorable Mayor and City Councilmembers,
As a Long Beach homeowner, I am mortified by agenda item 22-0482 of the
upcoming city council meeting.
As a father of a 13 year old and a 16 year old, both of whom like to hang out with me at playgrounds (with or without our dog), it seems utterly bizarre that
such familial diversions would suddenly be illegal. Why on earth would you make it
illegal for me to stand next to the swing set, talking with my daughter about her
school day or whatever, while she enjoys some time on the swings? All across the
city you are going to shut down such classic family activities? Really? And you
know that because the property destruction will be happening when nobody else is
around (and certainly no police will be around) all this ordinance will do is criminalize
quotidian activities, while undoubtedly doing little to actually prevent the problem you
are seeking to address.
Thank you for your time,
Dan Kelson

Jeff Mallin [email protected] Dear Honorable City Council Members - I appreciate and support this new ordinance (authored by Councilwoman Allen in partnership with Councilmember Uranga and signed on to by Councilwoman Price, possibly among others) to protect kids' and the public's safe access to our parks. I think it strikes the right balance of free and unfettered access for all to our public parks as wonderful and needed recreational assets to our city, while creating designated safe zones for kids to play with each other. Like any of our ordinances and codes, enforcement is going to be key with added onus placed on the police, prosecutor, and attorney offices. That said, I expect warnings may be given at first as awareness grows around this sensible change. Thank you for the thoughtful consideration and coming up with such innovative solutions!
Sincerely,
- Jeff Mallin

I do not support this ordinance and believe that it is an extreme measure to correct what appears to be a problem of vandalism. I spent many years taking my niece and nephew to the local parks and the only people I saw taking over equipment and perhaps misusing it were older middle or high school students.
It appears that this ordinance prohibits anyone older than 12 from using the equipment. Is this correct? Does this ordinance criminalize anyone who violates the ordinance? And who will be enforcing this? In my mind, this is an extreme measure to address a problem that should be able to be solved via some other action/alternative. 5/3/22

Christina Martinez [email protected] Thank you! As a parent and active community member, this provides law enforcement the tools they need to assist in unsafe situations. I’m grateful for your leadership.

diana lejins [email protected] Absolutely oppose. It is more than likely unconstitutional. The ACLU is very interested. I go to playgrounds and swing or whatever. My taxes pay for it, and I should not be denied. Get rid of the homeless if they are the problem.! Law-abiding tax-paying citizens should not be penalized because of the bad behavior of those who most likely don't even pay taxes.
